MOD Validated/Released

Notes:
Makes it so that you don't see the other IP address the user has posted from if you are viewing the IP address of a post a guest made.

Not really much of a mod, I'd consider it more of a "bugfix", as those IPs are wrong (at least in most cases) and can be quite misleading.

Perhaps it'll even be "included" in the next official phpBB release? ;)

I might install it then. The IPs listed... why are they misleading, and can you end up banning someone else who the guest has nothing to do with?

These IPs are retrieved via the user ID. It works fine for registered users - for example, if you check the IPs of user 48, it will show the IPs of all posts with the user ID 48.

But the problem with guests is that all of them have a user ID of -1. Which means that when you try to view the IP of one specific guest, that column will list the IPs of "user -1" - the IPs of all guests that have ever posted on your forum. So you'll get a list of IPs that the page says this guest has posted from, whereas it actually shows a lot more.

While using Advanced IP toolpack by pentapenguin and/or IP Country Flags by us you see exactly the IP and related Country of every guest, user (all of them listed one by one), so i don't really see this MOD how much it could be worth of being used.

Obviously if you don't have the packs above mentioned then it could, but i guess: who really cares?

As I said, it's more of a bugfix than an actual mod. It doesn't have much of a practical value, but it's generally better to have it than not to. And it's really easy to install ;)

Heh, thanks. By the way, I also have a "real" mod already in the validation phase and probably coming out in the next few days ;)

I have Advanced IP Tools Pack installed, and I did not know that! Thanks for the info, 3Di!

Does this mod mainly apply to people who enable guest posting in their forums?

Yeap. If you don't have any guest posts, there won't be any wrong IPs for them.

Not sure this mod was ever useful.

Could it not be that viewing all IP addresses from a Guest is useful?
