HELP! i can't restore my forums database!!!!

Post by MHobbit »

8O Yesterday my FTP Client crashed and deleted my phpBB 2.0.7 forums. Since I saw that the new version 2.0.7a came out, I just downloaded it, uploaded it onto my site, and installed it. Then, I went to the admin panel and tried to restore my old forums database (version 2.0.7). It did not work. Is it supposed to work? Or isn't it? Please help me.

How large is your backup? you have to split it up in 1MB pieces :)

Since it is only 731K, what error do you get exactly?

Well, it's practically an error... I restore it using the built-in function... but after a while, it goes to a blank white page, with "copyright phpBB 2004..." at the top, with nothing else there. I leave it at that page for 10 minutes, and it just stays there. So, I click on the Forum Index link from the Admin Panel, and is stayed the same as when I just installed it.
I'm going to get a screenshot of it now...
here it is (sorry if its a bit too big):

btw, how exactly would you just run the SQL file in myPHPadmin work?

Sometimes phpBB does that...never figured the reason out for myself :(

For the phpMyAdmin there is a Section called "SQL"

It has 2 Areas:

Run SQL query/queries on database AHS :
followed by a Text Area

and

Or Location of the textfile :
with an upload field

hit browse and find your backed up database (I dont compress so it for me would be a .sql file)
Select the file and then hit Go

how backing up works is it writes the contents of the PHPBB Database Tables into a SQL Query so that when you restore, it runs that Query automaticaly

This does the same thing but it just doesnt do it through the message board itself

I did that, and at first I thought everything was back, the name of the forums, the index, forums, everything. Then, I noticed that none of the registered users were there, I was the only one, all the smilies were gone, the posts claimed they were there, but i couldn't see it, and so on... I tried restoring it with the built-in function again, but same prob occurs: the white screen of blankness!!!!! :p hehehe

so, still i can't backup my forums. The posts are "still there" but are not visible...

p.s. I'm calm... :p but not for long :)

This happens to me every time I try and backup the database into a new forum also.

could you possibly only have backed up the structure and not the structure and data?
