Thats incorrect, you can use phpbb coding outside the root it just needs to be setup correctly.

I got something like this running on my site right now (I made it custom for me.)

Ok well i got it working it is almost done i have to make some adjustments to it. such as the readme and i am also working on an install file for the final release but when the beta comes out i will have it available for public download and free support given.
