[BETA] Dynamic Avatar

Post by dellsystem »

Modification Name: Dynamic Avatar
Author: dellsystem

Modification Description: This MOD provides the ability to edit your avatar, using bodily features and clothes that can be purchased or acquired. In the vein of 2.0x MODs like Live Avatar and Nulavatar, and the dynamic avatar capabilities of the 3.0x MOD Camorea Suite. Useful for RPG forums.
Modification Version:: 0.9.1
Compatible With: phpBB 3.0.11

Requirements: Although not required, the Ultimate Points MOD by femu and Wuerzi is supported by this MOD. If you have it installed, you will be able to set prices for items. If not installed, all items are free.
Additionally, although some sample images are provided for you to test out the MOD, a comprehensive set of avatar and clothing images is not included; you will need to acquire those images yourself.

Possible Questions (& Answers):
  • What are 'layers'?
The layer system is essentially way of categorising items. For example, the 'shoes' layer would contain all items that could be categorised as shoes. This might contain boots, sandals, and slippers, but would likely not contain robes or a wizard hat. The reason layers are necessary is so that only one item of each layer is worn at a time - wearing boots, sandals and slippers all at once would be rather silly. In addition, layers can be set as required if desired, so that there isn't some avatar walking around without pants. (Not that there's anything wrong with not wearing pants.)
  • How customisable will it be?
Quite! You can set the number of layers, their names, and which ones are required; bases and items are created by the admin, and their specifics (prices, etc) are customisable; you can allow users to change their base if desired, or prevent them from doing so.
  • Will this actually get finished?
That's my intention, but it'll take a while. I can not, unfortunately, boast of having time = ∞.
  • When will this be done?
A BETA version is now out, which supports the ability to purchase items when used in conjunction with the Ultimate Points MOD. There are some other requested features on the to-do list, which I will add before it hits the RC stage (hopefully by the end of the summer).

Thanks for the plans to work at this kind of mod. If you are looking shop mod type to add on with the dynamic avatar mod, maybe you can look at this Adrian's shop mod. http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopi ... &t=1438015 . You can use that mod for base coding or use other shop mods. Otherwise you can write one from scratch.

Mini-update #1 - started the UCP modules.
Work is going slowly but surely :) I should be able to pick up the pace soon (hopefully).

I'm still open to feature requests.

Will this be compatible with the few points mods out there?

It should be compatible with the other points MODs (besides the Ultimate Points MOD one). All it will require will be a user_points field. I'll test it for compatibility with the others.

haha, I meant, in addition to the Ultimate Points MOD ;)

See this, from the first post:
Requirements: Although not required, the Ultimate Points MOD by femu and Wuerzi is supported by this MOD. If you have it installed, you will be able to set prices for items. If not installed, all items are free.
