Nice work, I like your skillz and appreciate them. But, you should let people know if they install this mod, they will get spammed. Thought most times a small footer message was applicable?

What an awesome feature would if instead of a massive cloud it was 'banner' layout and you could add it at the bottom of each topic and it adds all tags from that topic.

I installed the RC1 on my dev board and it seems to work fine.

A few things you might want to look into. but please remember that these are opinions and that the module is yours, consumer demand is one thing, consumer dictatorship is another:
  • You are missing a language entry for ACP_CLOUD (A real small thing to nit pick, but I figure you want it perfect).
  • A small note in the DIY instructions that explain it won't display until you enable it in the Tag Cloud settings. (Always consider your average user to be as dumb as a post :? )
  • Speaking of dumb as a post, you might want to either state that adding values into the ACP module is optional, that or fill the fields with default values... the average user sees empty fields and assumes they need to be filled. They then consider it too much hassel and abandon it. (Always consider your average user to be as lazy as a mule. :roll: )
  • A possible feature for the next version would be allowing the user to enter custom links through the ACP module. Not all of them can program, they see code and run for the hills.
  • You also might want to consider having your url as part of a demo or in those custom links, often users don't like having something forced upon them. You already have the copyright at the bottom.
  • Last thing that might actually get you into trouble: You might want to add that the original copyright for the SWF program is for Roy Tanck, I'm not entirely familiar with how you would phrase it, maybe something like, "WP-Cumulus Plugin Copyrighted by Roy Tanck, phpBB Module Adaptation copyrighted to Austin". Unfortunately the way it is set at the minute is that some one might assume you made the flash program too.
Most of these are my opinions, (especially those insults to average users ;) ), but the copyright one could get you in trouble, probably not worth the risk.

But... and this is important... it is an excellent module. Your ACP addition is great and allows much more flexibility than the beta version.

It also installed smoothly.

It's a shame that the phpBB board doesn't have an automatic function for creating sidebars. It is actually something I am working on. This would be great as a sidebar where it can be seen near the top. Or even in some of the headers.

Very nice work and I will be watching for your next installments.

Outstanding tips, mjimeyg. I will consider each of them carefully.

As far as copyrights, I've discussed my intentions with Roy Tanck himself and asked if I have given him enough credit so I'm not too worried about that. Regardless, I will be sure to credit him fully for the Flash file.

Hmm, I thought I did fill in default values in the ACP module? Is it not working?

Allowing the user to enter custom links through the ACP module is something I am working on. This is in progress and will most likely be included in the final version. :)

Like I said before, the demo links in the cloud will be optional and removable when the Mod is released.

I think that is a big fat "NO". Search engines don't like Flash much.

Any time, I was just worried you might get trouble for it.

Wouldn't they be able to follow via the source code? All the links appear in html source, although they are url encoded. I suppose it depends on the bot... I haven't researched that much... but a robot.txt script would sort that out. But its an individual web administrators job.

I'm not sure what you are getting at. The cloud is not displaying anything because it uses the same authorizations as your forums. If you have your forums only visible to registered users, then the same will be true about the forum titles in the tag cloud.

Are you saying that even when a user is registered and logged-in that the forum titles are not displayed in the cloud?

Do something like this around the provided code for index_body.html wherever it looks good to you...

Code: Select all

<div style="float:right;"></div>

Where are you seeing this error message? I can't figure out why any page would be calling tag_cloud.php because there isn't such a file included in my package. Are you using the latest version of this Mod?

Insert a language text by new file, no by adding to common.php.

Open index.php, find:

Code: Select all

// BEGAN - ModernDignity.com Flash Animated Cumulus Tag Cloud
if ($config['cumulus_cloud_enabled'])
{
	if (!function_exists('display_tag_cloud'))
	{
		include($phpbb_root_path . 'includes/functions_cloud.' . $phpEx);
	}
	display_tag_cloud();
}
// ENDED - ModernDignity.com Flash Animated Cumulus Tag Cloud
In code find:

Code: Select all

if ($config['cumulus_cloud_enabled'])
{
after add:

Code: Select all

	$user->add_lang('mods/tag_cloud');
Create language/[lang]/mods/tag_cloud.php with code:

Code: Select all

<?php
/**
* mods noderndignity_flash_animated_cumulus_tag_cloud [English]
*
* @package ModernDignity Flash Animated Cumulus Tag Cloud
* @version 1.0.3

* @license http://opensource.org/licenses/gpl-license.php GNU Public License
*
*/

/**
* DO NOT CHANGE
*/
if (!defined('IN_PHPBB'))
{
	exit;
}

if (empty($lang) || !is_array($lang))
{
	$lang = array();
}

// DEVELOPERS PLEASE NOTE
//
//
// All language files should use UTF-8 as their encoding and the files must not contain a BOM.

$lang = array_merge($lang, array(
	'TAG_CLOUD'			=> 'Animated Tag Cloud',
	'TAG_CLOUD_ERROR'	=> 'Error with your Flash Player or Javascript.',

));

?>
polish:

Code: Select all

<?php
/**
* mods noderndignity_flash_animated_cumulus_tag_cloud [Polski]
*
* @package ModernDignity Flash Animated Cumulus Tag Cloud
* @version 1.0.3

/**

if (!defined('IN_PHPBB'))
{

}

if (empty($lang) || !is_array($lang))
{
	$lang = array();
}

// DEVELOPERS PLEASE NOTE
//
//
// All language files should use UTF-8 as their encoding and the files must not contain a BOM.

$lang = array_merge($lang, array(
	'TAG_CLOUD'			=> 'Animowana chmura tagów',
