Cyrillic domain names

Post by lampcms.com » Sat Jan 02, 2010 10:51 pm

As some of you may know, IANA has approved the Cyrillic letters to be used in top level domains. One of my client has asked me to setup a new forum for him on a new domain he is getting. The domain will have a cyrillic top level extension and possibly the entire domain name will by in cyrillic letters.

I wonder if there will be any issues with phpbb to support such domains? Can anyone give a definite answer about this?

Should be no issue.
There is also a Serbian (Cyrillic script) language pack available. http://www.phpbb.com/languages/?from=submenu

The best way to gain an insight is to do a quick install of phpBB3, it only takes a few minutes.

phpBB3 does not support TLDs of that type for the URL type bbcodes. Having it as a domain name shouldn't break anything, but keep in mind that it wasn't designed with those types of domains in mind.

However, it is something we will support in the future.
