Appears that I have followed all of the steps and fixes that I've found both on this forum, as well as other places - to prevent unregistered users from posting on our PHPBB3 forum. I have edited permissions from every angle possible (that I know of), and still no luck.
The one thing that I've seen mentioned, but cannot locate in my moderation panel is an option for to dictate that only "Registered Users" can post new, or reply to threads. Perhaps that is the missing key? If so, where is it located?
If that is not the missing key, what else can I do to prevent outsiders from posting once passing the captcha feature? Not the one who set it up - this whole thing kinda fell in my lap. Thanks for the help.
Groups Forum Permissions, set Guests to Read Only Access And registered users to standard access. Vary it per Forum as you wish. No access will stop them from even reading it. Full access should be reserved for Admins and Moderators as a rule.
Use the permission masks to see where the permission is granted from, someone may have given the Anonymous User User Permissions to access it, that's why it's better to use Group permissions.
When I go to Permissions --> Permission Masks --> View Forum Based Permissions, I come up with a grid showing the permission set for Guests, and the only two that are current GREEN are:
• Can see forum
• Can read forum
The rest are all red, yet guests still do have access to post NEW threads, and Reply. Something else?
Manage Users, enter Anonymous, make sure it is only in the Guest Group, then check Permissions for Anonymous, MY global permissions show him RED on Everything.
Just when I thought the problem was solved, I was slamming my desk again!
Found that Anonymous was in other groups, but I removed those, and the user is now ONLY in Guests, nothing else. Everything is Red for the user in the Global Permissions, and set to NEVER. When going to a specific forum - everything is still set to NEVER, except for.
Can See Forum
Can Read Forum
Can Download Files
Can Print Topics
Can Subscribe Forum
Can Search Forum
...all of which we want them to be able to do.
Thanks so much for all the help up to this point - I've learned a whole bunch! Any more suggestions on this issue?
