Re: Quick reply for phpBB3

Hi rxu, I've been using your excellent quick reply mod until recently. When I upgraded to phpbb 3.06, I couldn't get the auto upgrade to work so I did it manually.

I have now lost quick reply I suspect because I have overwritten the edited files. (The mod files are still there).

If I just edit the theme files, will it work again - or should I remove everything and start from scratch?

The controls are still available in the acp.

I'd suggest just to recheck edits for php and html files and fix them if broken. No need to run install.php again.
And generally this MOD can be incompatible with 3.0.6 in some special cases.
Thanks :)

So it may not work then?

I'm using aerobluex as a theme.

That's not about the themes :)
It should work by default. But you have to keep built-in QR turned off on per-forums level.
The second thing is that it's not compatible with the new CAPTCHA modules if you're going to use visual confirmation for posting.
The third thing is that if you made some adjustments to this MOD (like get rid of the Subject field, etc) it could be unworkable in 3.0.6 since it can be overwritten with the stock 3.0.6 viewtopic.php code.
May be some other issues unknown for now. But if you don't use 2nd and 3rd cases, and do the 1st one, it should work fine :)

Does it mean I can't use CAPTCHA at all? Or is there a module that will work? (This maybe the reason it's not working actually!)

No, you can use CAPTCHA of course.
But if you use it for guest posting for example, something like Q&A CAPTCHA just won't be displayed in quickreply box.

I am having trouble with this MOD. I am using php 3.0.6, and the MOD "installed" correctly. The problem is I do not see any settings for it in the ACP, nor is it showing up in the UCP or forum. The only option I see for it is in the Post Settings of the ACP to turn it on/off. My ACP also seems to be missing a purge cache section (don't know if it was there before). Any ideas?

Nevermind about not being able to purge the cache. I purged, but still no quick reply. Can only "toggle" it in Post Settings, and it is on.

Did you run install.php (see here for additional info)?

Hi rxu,

Thank you for this great MOD. Can you take a look at CA Gen2 style? I believe somebody else asked you about this before but I cannot find the solution yet. Everything is good except viewtopic_body.html editing.

Without those edits, I can see the quick reply feature but there are some problems.
1. Quick reply buttom doesn't show up. It just shows quick reply in text.
2. There are no bottoms for quotes and etc.

Thank you again !!!

Yes, I ran the newer install.php and it said the module installed successfully. The only problem is that it does not show up under board configuration in the ACP, anywhere in the UCP, or on the forum. However, if you go to system -> module management -> ACP -> General -> Board Configuration, it shows Quick Reply module there and that it is enabled. Nothing is showing up as far as quick reply other than the toggle in post settings.

I'd advice to apply just the last edit for viewtopic_body.html for CA Gen2 style, namely:

Code: Select all

FIND
<!-- INCLUDE jumpbox.html -->

ADD BEFORE
<!-- IF QUICK_REPLY --><!-- INCLUDE quick_reply.html --><!-- ENDIF -->
And this QR MOD doesn't have any buttons (unless I'm missing the meaning of your question).

Please make sure that you don't confuse the phpBB 3.0.6 built-in quick reply with this QR MOD. This MOD has it's own ACP module and corresponding settings in UCP/Board preferences/Edit display options tab ;)

Did you mean that I have to ignore #1 and #2 edits to viewtopic_body.html? My understanding from your comments about viewtopic_body.html (one you wrote a long time ago) is that #1 is something with user profile and #2 is something with quote. Is there any other way to do this?

Also, CA Gen2 style has an icon for quick reply. Is it possible to use that instead of "quick reply" in text?

Thank you for your rapid response !! =)

The thing is that phpBB 3.0.6 has it's own quick reply built-in and people now are confusing it with MOD(s) of quick reply :)
If we use some built-in quick reply things, it will be absolutely different MOD than this.

Yes. Edit #1 is to quickly paste username into QR box rounded by bbcode tags. Since in CA Gen2 username acts as a dropdown menu, the feature doesn't make sense.
Edit #2 is to quickly paste selected post text as a quote into QR box (a kind of "quick quote" or "quote selected"). It can be implemented, but I need some more time to make it properly. :)

just curious... how can i add option from posting_editor.html on quickly reply body?... i mean

i use mod from http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopi ... &t=1179095 so

i want to copy and paste

Code: Select all

			<!-- IF S_USER_GROUPS -->
			<hr class="dashed" />
			<dl>
				<dt><label for="post_as_groupmember">{L_POST_AS_GROUPMEMBER} :</label></dt>
				<dd><label for="post_as_groupmember"><select name="post_as_groupmember" id="post_as_groupmember"><option value="1"></option>{USER_GROUPS}</select></label></dd>
				<dd>{L_POST_AS_GROUPMEMBER_EXPLAIN}</dd>
			</dl>
			<!-- ENDIF -->
on your quick-edit.html

but i am not sure how to put um "post_as_groupmember" data information on your mod... can you please tell me? so i can see option on quickly reply box...

thank you very much...
