Re: [BETA] Topic Age Warning

Post by Anyasha »

Question: Does this MOD make it impossible to reply to an old topic, or does it only display the warning? I am just curious, because I am not wanting to lock old topics or prevent replies entirely, but to display a warning about the topic age and remind users to reply only if they have something constructive to add. So if we do not check the "lock topic" option, will users see the warning but still be able to reply?

Hi,

this mod sounds great :)

but I've got a question and if the answer is no - then I have a featurerequest:

Is this a global setting or can i change it for each forum ... the reason for this question is that i run a forum for a onlinegame with a trading section and for this parts i'd like to have this warning/locking but on other parts of my forum i won't like to see this beheavior

best regards Un1

Yes, if the "Lock topic" option is NOT enabled, the user will still be able to reply, but a warning will be shown.

Sorry but this is currently only a global setting. And for this first version (ultimately 1.0.0), I am planning on keeping it simple. Once I get 1.0.0 into the database with the current feature set, I will then consider adding features such as this one.

This seems to be working so far. But you put the edits for the prosilver template in the install file twice. ;) Also, do you plan to extend this for quick reply?

Thanks for letting me know.

I hadn't thought about quick reply. I will consider adding that in the next version. :)

EDIT: On second thought, I may just make it disable quick reply on old threads and have the option to show a message in its place.

Been wanting this feature for a while now.

May I make some suggestions?

For the quick reply, make it optional. Whether to show an warning and/or extend it to include the quick reply when replying.
Subsilver2 edits, my style is based off subsilver2.

Also can we change it to "Warning" to "Alert" as no one gets a "warning" if they bump old topics, right? Not really that big a deal, but some people might mistake it for giving users a warning through the phpbb3 warning system instead of showing a warning.

Evening David, a few notes, for ACP

Code: Select all

'legend4'					=> 'TOPIC_AGE_WARNING',
You could, and I recommend, to do instead

Code: Select all

'legendtaw'					=> 'TOPIC_AGE_WARNING',
..and nitpicky stuff, in your functions file you have this at the top
Topic Age Warning Install File
...and it isn't an install file. ;)

Good luck with your mod. :)

Thanks. Yeah, I wasn't sure what the appropriate thing for the legend key was, so I just tried legend4 and it worked. I'll change that.

And that's what I get for copy/pasting the header. :P I'll change that too.

Thanks for the info!

Looks like I missed your post earlier. Glad you like it.

Ok, I'll add an option for quick reply to let the admin choose to either (1) disable quick reply in old topics, (2) show quick reply with the same message as is the user replied to the topic normally.
Subsilver2 edits, my style is based off subsilver2.
I will consider this, but I am not a big fan of subSilver2 and it's a bunch of extra work for me to support subSIlver2 and proSilver.
Also can we change it to "Warning" to "Alert" as no one gets a "warning" if they bump old topics, right? Not really that big a deal, but some people might mistake it for giving users a warning through the phpbb3 warning system instead of showing a warning.
The word "warning" is not in the actual message shown to the user. You are correct that they do not receive an actual warning through the moderation system, but they are displayed a warning message. However, I will keep the title as is for now. ;)

Anyway... work on 0.1.3 will begin this afternoon if I have a chance. With finals and projects I'm a bit busy all around.

Thanks.

I'm not a big fan of Subsilver2 either, but the theme I do use DVGFX2 is based off Subsilver2.

MOD Updated to 0.1.3 BETA

Changes from 0.1.2 BETA to 0.1.3 BETA:
[remove] removed duplicate edits in install.xml file (thanks Anyasha)
[new] support for quick reply.
[change] a couple of minor details in install.xml and functions_taw.php (thanks RMcGirr83).

No specific update instructions given. To install/update, uninstall all current edits (AND run the sql uninstall script!), and then reinstall the MOD with the new install instructions.

MOD information and download/repository links in first post.

Please report all bugs or errors here.
