[Help] Multiple Forums with Single User DB

Post by Zason »

I hope this is the place to ask this since it is neither a mod or mod request.

I poised this question in a thread however it was not directly related to the OP. http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopi ... &t=1935435

I have separate phpbb3 DBs and I want to link them together with a single user DB. How can I do this?

You may have a look in the topic Help with forums sharing same database.. It gives directions on how to share a user database over several forums.

I must confess, I tried reading and following the above linked thread and what I gather is that the multiple forums are on the same database.

I have separate databases, same server, I would ideally like to dictate having some sites share tables so information is cross posted, however that is a bit away.

Currently I need to share users and any other tables required for users. Not permissions or groups as they are going to be site specific.

Still looking for help. Currently all of the sites run fine on separate databases.

Also looking for a way to change where PHPBB3 looks for certain folders/files. For an example, if I could have it look for styles in root/sites/DOMAIN.com/styles/ rather than the default. (Note: DOMAIN.com is not static since different sites folders have different names.)

I'm basically looking for this modification as well. I read through all 6 pages at http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopi ... 9#p3087439, and while I think they're on the right track ... it looks like a MOD in progress without a set of clear and concise instructions on how to properly address sharing users amongst the different forum installations and sharing avatars and image files users upload.

Very interested in a comprehensive mod that provides a proper solution for having a network of websites.

Right, me too. >:+)

If there was a way to add a code in the config to pull users from a different database, that would be perfect since I have a config for each site/forum.

I remember there was a forum that allowed this, but it was a long time ago. phpBB2? PHPnuke? Dragonfly? I forget.

Yeah, i'm still waiting for this as well. Hoping that a proper mod can come out for this rather than me trying to hack together a bunch of sites.

I have just successfully created 2 forums in a single database sharing users without any permissions problems.

Im going to do a writeup on it in the next few days and publish it here, whilst it wont allow you to use multiple databases, it may give you the information you need to go that extra step.

I was looking forward to it too but it doesn't look like he has logged on again since his original post. I would email him but I don't have permission to do that yet (less than 5 posts on my account).

Anyone else want to fill in for him?

This works fine if you just share the users, banlist, sessions and sessions_keys tables:

"The article specified doesn't exist."

I tried googling it in case you made a typo but had no luck... :(
