Screen(cast)/(record) software

Post by DoYouSpeakWak »

Hey everybody.

The past weeks iwe been searching for a program windows xp or 7 that can record my screen and let me save it as a video.

Without flickering, with sound, both from mic and from the soundcard.

I must have tried the first 40 programs with no luck. :roll:

Have you tried one that really just works ? If so what was it called ?

Great. Thanks i havnt tried that one.

It seem to work fine. Exept that seems only to allow only video recording (with no audio).
If i select that it should record audio. It does not record video anymore. But i guess a bit more testing have to be done first. Thanks again

The only one I have used is AllCapture, but that was with XP, not Win-7.

+1, Camtasia is a fantastic software which allows you to output the recording in more formats than you can shake a stick at.

When you're seecting the area of the screen to record, you should see the option to record audio with your screen. You can choose between system audio (so if you're playing something through iTunes, it will record that with the screen in perfect quality), or you can choose to record the microphone. You can even choose to record both system and microphone sounds, as well as the screen at the same time.

The post-recording editor also allows for a great deal of customisation (callouts, zoom & pan, etc..). As with most decent software, you're looking at a pretty heavy price tag of ~£220, though you definitely get what you pay for. As far as I know, no other screen recording software comes close.

Great software.
I don't suppose it's able to record in-game scenes?

Thanks so much for your suggestions.

so far iwe tried Camtasia Studio 7 on my xp laptop. But it was extremly slow. If i moved the mouse its shown as slow motion in the video. Very bad. But i will try on my larger desktop before ruling it out.

If you hit the minimum requirements on that laptop, not sure what the problem might be:
# 1.5 GHz, single-core minimum ~ Recommended: Intel 2.0 GHz dual-core or better
# 1 GB RAM minimum ~ Recommended: 2.0 GB or more
You could try reducing the framerate or resolution through the video config if it's too much for your laptop.

Thanks for all of your suggestions. But in the end i found this and its briliant.

http://www.labnol.org/software/best-scr ... ool/17855/

downside is that its a microsoft program that requires silverlight,framework 4. But if you got those and xp, vista, 7 installed then its really nice to use and the free version has plenty of features. Only restrictions are wmv only and max 10 mins.

After using that your stuck with wmv files. Im not sure if youtube accepts them. But anyway from here its easy to convert to avi or flv. In the example below i have used. "Hamster free video converter" google it. Its fast and well yes free.

From there you can upload to youtube. Add this xhtml valid embedded to your site.
http://blog.miranda.or.at/site/embeddin ... pliant-way

Or use fowplayer if you wanna stay private. But in case you do, you need winFF to convert the avi file to mp4 (or just use the full version of the microsoft program that can convert into mp4) But remember, there is no searching the video with fowplayer.

Fowplayer example code included here, made it xhtml valid. org wasnt.

Code: Select all

<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN"
"http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd">
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" lang="en" xml:lang="en">
<head>
<title>XHTML-document</title>
</head>
<body>
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://static.flowplayer.org/js/flowplayer-3.2.4.min.js"></script>
<!-- player container-->
<p>
<a
    href="test.mp4"
    style="display:block;width:568px;height:425px;"
    id="player">
</a>
</p>

<script type="text/javascript">

$f("player", "http://releases.flowplayer.org/swf/flowplayer-3.2.5.swf", {

    // this will enable pseudostreaming support
    plugins: {
        pseudo: { url: 'flowplayer.pseudostreaming-3.2.5.swf' }
    },

    // clip properties
    clip: {

        // these two configuration variables does the trick
        autoBuffering: true,
        autoPlay: false,

        // make this clip use pseudostreaming plugin with "provider" property
        provider: 'pseudo',

        // all videos under this baseUrl support pseudostreaming on the server side
        url: 'test.mp4'
    }
});
</script>
</body>
</html>
Example of avi file uploaded to youtube. 25fs, 1000kps. 720hp. 192kps sound.(Please switch to hd otherwise it looks bad, nothing to do with the programs or youtube. But the low screen res i recorded in 1024x768) phpBB examples that at around 4 mins, before that its zapp branigans guide to making love at women. :)

ScreenToaster might help, web-based and free and doesn't slow down your computer.
I use DemoCreator as Camtasia alternative because it's much cheaper and just offers basic editing features which free screencast software doesn't have.

Tested and it works fine. Not that many details as the more expensive stuff. limited to 20 frames/s stuff like that. but nice software
