There is no support for bleeding edge code.

You can make your own release anytime you want simply by checking out of the repository, however you do not want the current dev code for production boards as there are some severe bugs, some of which they are aware of some some which they are not. ;)
Not really helpful, if you are aware of those as you are supposed to, please provide patchs or report them.

RC is a test package. PL is released after stable versions for minor corrections.

A release candidate (or RC) is a test release for a (proposed) final release. If no major issues are found, the release candidate will be repackaged as the final release. Otherwise, another release candidate is prepared and released.

Patch level (PL), on the other hand, denotes a minor change made to a final release after it is initially released. This may consist of updating an included third-party library, minor corrections (in the case of 3.0.7, a one-line security fix), and similar things that do not warrant a full change in version number.

+1 and I have all my mods installed on it as well as a few others. Just one conflict (which wasn't really a conflict at all as I had already changed the code).

Provided no major issues are found during the RC phase, the final release should come in around 2-3 weeks.
