Hello Translation Forum,
I am using phpBB 3.0.8 on Mac OS X Server and MySQL installed using the BitNAMI stack. It has worked extremely well, and all the users are happy with the excellent free software that is phpBB.
A couple of days ago we ran into an interesting issue that I am hoping won't be too difficult or time consuming to resolve.
There must be something peculiar about searching for certain Chinese characters. For example, searching for 口径 comes back with "The following words in your search query were ignored because they are too common words: 径 口. You must specify at least one word to search for. Each word must consist of at least 3 characters and must not contain more than 14 characters excluding wildcards."
Also, the doubling up of the characters produces the same error (e.g., 口径口径).
I tried the Advanced Search link under the Search field. I attempted searching for *口径* (and checking the search for any term), but it looks to have returned most if not all posts. So using the Advanced Search may only be useful on the certain characters.
However, when searching for 贸易, the software returned an expected response (it also returned correctly with only a single character 贸).
Is there a change that I can make either to the configuration or directly to the code to disable the error and force a more literal search that would act like a direct SQL command that would return the topics/posts correctly. I am willing to live with disabling less than 3 English character searches just to ensure the Chinese searches function as expected.
Thanks to everyone in the Forum and we really appreciate the outstanding software.
Regards,
Mike
