Translator interface

Hi,

I'm thinking about using the PHPBB code as the framwork to build my site on. I also have a few languages I support. Is there a translation tool which I can use to translate my site-specific language files?

I'd like to clarify a bit: currently I have one big language file per language (and a few helper files, but they'r not important right now). I've made a translation script which makes it easy to translate a language file (since I don't do all translations myself).

With the PHPBBB 3.x language setup this isn't that easy anymore. I could re-write my script but I assume something already exists...

We just use a text editor to edit the phpBB3's language files. If you want an interface, you can go to your Administration Control Panel -> System -> Language Packs then select the desired language pack to edit it from there. However, we advise to edit the language packs with a text editor like Notepad++ or PSPad.

thanks for your reply. I was hoping you guys had developed a translation interface.

is easier to translate than

ACCOUNT_DEACTIVATED' => '.',

The problem is not so much the first time translation but the updates when new keys are added.

My translation team consists of volunteers whom I don't expect to know what an text editor is ;o) So my current script takes all values from the language-file and makes a form with 2 columns: "english" and a text-field for the translation.

So maybe this is a good idea? It would be great if there was an easy and user friendly interface to manage the translations. If I find the time I'll work on that (but it's very low priority for me). If I manage to produce something usefull I'll make sure to contribute

We, the translators, received of the Development Team the code changes to the new version, this is not a big problem. example: phpBB 3.0.8 to phpBB 3.0.9-RC3 Language Pack Changes

However, working together brings issues, especially in concurrent editing of files. That's why most of our current translators use a distributed revision control system to manage translations. We recommend to use Git as software and GitHub as host because we use them for our projects, so it will be easier for you to fork them and send us your translations.

The git is a great tool to control your translation.

I can't see how using a texteditor would be an issue for anybody....
