Newly Registered Users also in Registered users

Post by sharks12 »

Newly Registered Users also in Registered users

Tried switching new member limit to 0 & 5 - No difference

From what I saw on groups of new users, they are in both NRU & RU groups.
Set Newly Registered Users group to default: Yes

I want NRU to be in ONLY NRU and not registered users. Help?

The fact that NRU are members of RU is a permissions thing, for example, there are certain permissions for NRU set to NEVER in RU etc.

Can you explain what you really want to do there may be a simpler solution than messing with RU/NRU permissions.

NRU & RU have different permissions. But NRU users also get RU status.

It's completely normal for members to be in both groups.

The NEVER permissions of certain actions like being able to PM and being able to post without approval override those of the registered users group and thus stop them from doing those actions.

When they get to the set limit they drop out of the NRU group and assume full registered user permissions.

Note that if you change the new member post limit it is only applicable to new accounts created after that change. So anyone who was in the NRU group when it was set to 5 will still have the limitations until they get to 5 posts.

You can either remove them from the group manually or resync the group members with the Support Toolkit

User registration settings
Set the new member post limit to what you want.

Now all NEW registrations will be governed by that number of posts.

For the things you don't want them to be able to do you need to set the group or forum permission to NEVER.

So I don't see "member posts or limits" on the User Registration screen.

I changed it to Admin because I am so sick of new members being real humans paid to spam.

Running 3.0.5.
