[ABD] Fantasy Sports for phpBB3

Modification Name: Sports Prediction for phpBB3 (formally Fantasy Sports 3 for phpBB2)
Author: JSLayton

Modification Description: Allows users to submit predictions of sporting events (football, baseball, basketball, etc) and receive points based on the accuracy of these predictions.

This MOD was fairly successful in phpBB2. When phpBB3 was initially released, I was not in a position to rewrite the MOD to be compatible with phpBB3. However, things have changed now and I was wondering how much interest there would be now. If interested, please post here and if there is enough support, I will get started.

His appears to be more tailored toward soccer, whereas my MOD would be written with American Football in mind with considerations made for baseball and basketball. Also, the points system with mine appeared to be more customizable and more streamlined.

Hey! I actually used your mod for phpbb2 long long ago. I can just imagine what it will look like now with phpbb3!

I would be very keen for this mod. Just finished using your previous Fantasy Sports mod for phpbb2 before updating to phpbb3. I had your Fantasy Sports mod running for Australian Rules Football and Rugby League. Members and myself alike loved it. Been looking at the other mod linked above but not really a fan of the scoring options as opposed to what Fantasy Sports offered in the past. I and my members alike particularly liked the bonus point option. Please tell us you will develop this mod for phpbb3.

Hi,

The mod you are discussing is of course my mod. I have to agree that Sportsbook Lite is pretty much tailored towards soccer. I have had a few requests to change things to accommodate baseball and such, and I have had to turn these requests down as they wouldn't fit with the soccer aspect of Sportsbook. I doubt very much that Sportsbook Lite, or any future version, will totally meet the needs of sports outwith soccer and a few choice others.

I would say there will be lots of interest in a mod that will cater for scoring systems and sports that are different from soccer. Good luck!

Welcome back JSLayton!!!!

The Fantasy Sports MOD for phpBB2 was VERY popular on my board and has really been missed. I am really looking forward to the development of this a new version for phpBB3.

Like other have said, the Sportsbook Lite MOD is more for the soccer crowds and I would also say it's very European in the language as well. I am just not a fan of it as is seems to concentrate more on the the teams and teams stat than the picks themselves. I just don't care about how a teams is doing, there are tons of websites that can give you that data. I just want to make picks and keep it simple.

I really liked what you had going with the original Fantasy Sports MOD. We used to pick NFL Football, College hockey and a few other sports at the same time. It was a great MOD and I am really looking forward to you developing a phpBB3 version!

By searching Archive.org, I found some old pages on my website with the Fantasy Sports. You will have to remember that the CSS is no longer working, but it at least gives you an idea of what it used to be back then. If I recall, I did have my own modifications to the original mod. I don't recall if the original scrolling scoreboard was part of the MOD or not.

I registered just to say YES PLEASE!

I checked out the Soccer mod and it is awesome, but only for soccer from what I can see. If something with even half of that polish was released american sports it would be amazing. Don't forget some college stuff too
