HOW TO SET AUTOMATIC LOG IN? (ie. REMEMBER ME?)

Post by dbbubba01 »

For some reason I cannot seem to find how to allow members to use the "automatic log-in feature" that says "REMEMBER ME?" on the log in page.
Even I (as an ADMIN) have to fill in my USER NAMNE and PASSWORD each time.

In the past I have seen where this option/feature is toggled on and off in the ADMINISTRATION AREA, but I can't find it now.

Where is this feature activated in the ADMIN AREA?

security settings page, very first option: Allow persistent logins: yes or no.

by default, that is set to yes.

most likely your problem is cookie related.

please give us a link to your board so we can check your cookies.

www.analogrecordingforums.com

I didn't look under "security" I guess...

It seems that one particular frequent user has had this issue for quite a while.
I myself (founding ADMIN) have only recently had an issue with this.

So, you are saying that if the user's cookies relating to this forum are deleted or "messed-up" somehow they wouldn't be able to use the feature?

Let me know what you find out.
Thanks for the help.

I just noticed that the LENGTH OF TIME THAT THE PERSISTENT LOG-IN IS ALLOWED is set to zero.
Zero dis-ables the feature although the feature is allowed in the first line of the SECURITY section, I guess.

What is a good number of days to use?
365?
I can't see why any limit would matter for frequent users.

Thanks again.

no, I was referring to the board cookies. they are wrong.

you have this:
cookie domain: http://www.analogrecordingforums.com

it should be: .analogrecordingforums.com

no http://www
notice the dot in front, that is important.

also, when you change this, change the cookie name as well. just add a number to it.

submit,
log out and back in.

this should solve your problems with login and your members' problems as well.

in the security settings. setting the value to zero disables a time limit, it does not disable the option.

If automatic logins are enabled, you are not presented with a login page at all. If you are seeing a login page, then either you have not checked "login me in automatically", or you have lost your cookie.

There is nothing in phpBB that would fill in your username automatically. Such "remember me" functionality is in your webbrower, not in phpBB.
