Automod - Standard feature

Post by Dzonny »

Seriously, I don't know why this is not already done, but having automod as a standard feature would be something to consider I think.

It won't be necessary as MODs will be added through the new hooks system.

But mods still need to be 'installed' & 'uninstalled', right?

Personally speaking I like to:

- See my list of installed mods in the ACP
- Upload & install them via the ACP
- Uninstall via the ACP
- Upgrade mods via the ACP

(i.e. Automod).

There are also database changes required by mods... those scripts need running and when you use Automod it seems that it at least directs you to the link to do that; sometimes this is done for you.

So there still needs to be an install / upgrade / uninstall mod-management process in ACP even if mods are using a hook system?

I believe Kevin was speaking of phpBB 3.1. In that version there will be "extensions" which when uploaded require no edits to any of the core phpBB files.

3.1 will still need a way to do that uploading/installing/activating...like automod. I also think this was suggested in area51. Whether or not it's included in the core or added as an officially supported Extension is another story...
