A newbie question on BBCode.

Post by AlecWest »

Note that I'm using phpBB 3.0.11 with the twilightBB style and American English language pack installed.

I tried to use the [center][/center] BBCode on my signature line and noticed it didn't work. So, I did some checking on this forum's help pages which led me to a page to enter a "custom" BBCode. I went to the appropriate ACP page and entered in the codes as mentioned:

[center]{TEXT}[/center] --- the BBCode
...and...
<div style="text-align: center;">{TEXT}</div> --- the HTML equivalent

Didn't work. I even tried this as an HTML equivalent:

<center>{TEXT}</center>

Still didn't work. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks in advance to anyone who replies.

this works for me:
<div style="text-align: center;">{TEXT}</div>

check your bbcode and make sure it is exactly like that.

test it in prosilver to see if it works there.
if so then it is something wrong with your other style.

Thanks, Robert. Unless I cannot do it, I always copy/paste. And, I copy/pasted the HTML equivalent code from the tutorial page where I saw it (which was identical to your code). When I hit the submit button and went back to the forum, it didn't work.

BUT ...

I noticed something. When I copy/pasted, my cursor ended up on the line below the code. In short, the act of copy/pasting added a hard line-feed to the operation. So, I copy/pasted again ... but this time, I back-spaced to the ">" character on the code line, removing the hard line-feed. After that, my customized [center][/center] BBCode worked like a charm (grin).

So, the problem I was having with a custom BBCode was ultimately MY problem ... assuming that phpBB was more forgiving than it was. In the future, I'll be more "exact."

Again, thanks for your help.
