Avoid new users to go into registered users group?

Hi guys, I have a quick question.

I'm running phpbb 3.0.12 and I noticed if a new user registers on the forums, he will go automatically into new registered users AND registered users groups. Now I don't have a problem with the first group, but I'd like to know if it's possible to make it so that a new user doesn't go into registered users group right away too.

The reason for this being on the forums I have a mandatory introduction subforum in which a new user has to post and we would have to approve the post. I know there is a function that new users get removed from the new users group after an X amount of posts, but they're already in the normal registered user group aswell straight away after registering.

Now if I could somehow disable that a new user automatically goes into the normal users group I could just set that other option to 'remove user from new users group after 1 post'.

Can't be done with standard phpBB and is unnecessary to achieve your aim.

For the forums you don't want members of the Newly Registered Users group being able to post in change the group's forum permission role from Newly Registered User Access to Read Only Access.

Hi, I don't want them to have read access only. I only want people to have access to the introduction subforum until there first introduction post has been approved : )

I guess I'll just have to make another group and have to manually assign them to that group after approving their introduction post?

No, just set the role to No Access for the other forums.

Hi, I already have that now for new users. But after approving their introduction I still have to change their permissions to be able to see the rest of the forum.

I just figured if I made an extra group it might be easier I would only have to move them to another group after approving introduction instead of changing permissions right?

Ah, that is because the No Access role has No permissions that are overridden by the Yes permissions from the Registered Users group. Here is a way to do it with the standard groups, How to use the post count to limit forum access.

After reading up on that and playing around a bit with permissions I think I finally got it thanks ^^

I have the same set up i.e. they go into the registered users group with limited access to the forums. I leave some open to them so that they can make a post in one of them or (preferably) into the introduction forum. I have another user group called All Access and once a first post is made I manually add them to that. My friend has a similar method but requires two postings before all access is given.

That's how I was going to do it. But after following oyabun's steps I managed to automate this.
