With two years of participation under our belt, I am glad to announce that phpBB is once again taking part in the Google Summer of Code (GSoC) program this year.
Google's Summer of Code program encourages students to get involved in free and open source software (F/OSS) by pairing them up with experienced mentors in popular F/OSS projects. In addition to making valuable contributions to their host organisation, students gain experience working in a group environment and are further rewarded with a monetary stipend of $5500.00 USD for the summer.
Prospective students can start by browsing our Ideas Page
to see the kinds of tasks we would consider beneficial. We do, of course, welcome proposals for your own unique ideas and you may submit multiple proposals if you like. More information about the GSoC program itself is available on the GSoC FAQ page
. For instructions on how to apply to work with us, please see our Instructions Page
phpBB uses Github for source control and students are encouraged to become familiar with the system as early on as possible. Our development wiki contains a beginner's guide (Working_with_Git
) and extensive documentation can be found on help.github.com
. Additional information regarding phpBB development can be found on Area51
The student application process is now open and will continue until 19:00 UTC on March 21
. Please be mindful of the date as no late proposals can be accepted.
We strongly encourage all students to contact us via IRC in #phpbb-dev on irc.freenode.net. IRC is where we hang out and the odds of having your proposal accepted increase significantly if we recognize you.
Alternatively, if you absolutely must, you may send us a private message or email with questions.
