phpbb default style re-design

Master_Cylinder, this idea is about re-designing the current style, no whether or not you think the updated one "looks as bad". If you have constructive criticism, then that's fine. Bashing by saying we're going "in the wrong direction" is not constructive.

Opinions on how bad the design looks is constructive, imho.

If you feel this way, explain why you feel this way. If applicable, provide facts and figures of other projects that went this direction. Saying it sucks helps nobody.

Well, in 3.1, prosilver is responsive, using html5 and css3 features. If someone likes to have completely new style, they can create one and propose to be implemented as a default one.

Or maybe (just in case there are lots of frontend developers having nothing to do) phpBB could bring new style every now and then, just like Wordpress does. However, a team responsible for that should be created.

Kind if my plan, we need something new and the best way is to create it through the style submission and get the communities feedback on phpBB.com through it development.

I have started laying the groundwork for such an endeavor https://github.com/hanakin/phpBB-StyleGuide the focus at the moment being establishing a framework to base a rewrite of the code on top of. With design coming in to play later on.

I agree with some of the commenters above though we need a very simple theme with a very small CSS footprint to base things off.

I don't agree, the actual prosilver style is perfect, and works fine also on smartphones.
I don't understand this trend to transform everything in a shitty app-like design with less features (or difficoult-to-find features).
A forum is a forum, it's not a shitty app, if you want that simply use a telegram group instead of a forum.

This topic was started way back in 2014 and well before the we had a mobile responsive theme for phpBB by default. Your right, the actual prosilver theme is perfect... now that its responsive

I think the current prosilver is much better than the new proposal.

I'd also imagine the current prosilver will still be supported for a while yet, even long after the new theme comes online.

Lets be honest, no one can block progress and change sometimes is not easy but, if you got involved with the development of the new theme, at least your opinions (good or bad) will be taken into account.
