[split] Decrease database size?

Post by gussie »

Like the OP, I have a recent, but not latest, version of phpBB running. Mine is 3.0.10. The database size is 2.87GB and my install is pretty heavily modified (there are a few mods that I found here and elsewhere, and a couple of custom modifications)
Lumpy Burgertushie wrote:... if you are going to upgrade to 3.1 then do not worry about it as those tables will not be moved over to the new board...
I want to check if my understanding is correct, because I would also like to upgrade the forum to the latest version of 3.1. Does the following sound right:
- running the STK cleaner will remove the tables of modifications that were made
- when I upgrade to 3.1.x, the search tables will not be used, so the actual database size could be as little as 1/3 of the database size displayed in my ACP (so from 2.87GB, only 700k or so will be used)
- after the upgrade, 3.1.x will rebuild whatever search tables or infrastructure it needs

Is there are recommended minimum spec for a new webhost? Would 2 CPU Cores, 50GB SSD Storage, and 3GB Dedicated RAM be enough for a phpBB 3.1.2 install and a 2.87GB or so database?

I've split this to a new topic from viewtopic.php?f=46&t=2284981 and moved it to the 3.1.x Support forum to get more dedicated answers to your specific questions than you'd get by tacking these questions onto another user's topic. Hopefully this helps!
