Thanks for the tips folks on where to upgrade my boards.

A friend of mine said the username "Hamin" is now posting the same message on his boards. You all might want to ban that name before it gets to you.

I have an "anonymous6562" now registered on my forum after I registered the "Pepotamo1985" user id. My forum is set up for account confirmation email and "anonymous6562" never clicked the confirmation link in the email ;)

So far I haven't received anything today. I turned on the guest posting after I registered the "Pepotamo1985" user id.

For people who have turned on Visual Confirmation but are not seeing the image section on the registration page, please see this

http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=240913

If you have style other than subSilver and that style was not marked as 2.0.11 compatible when you downloaded it then you will need to make one or both of those changes.

But what about if you are using subSilver, and nothing at all has been modded?

Then either you don't have 2.0.11 or you haven't enabled visual confirmation in the administration panel.

What would really fix all this though, is visual confirmation for guest posting...

I posted that in the MOD Request forum yesterday as that's the only thing I can see that would stop it.

PamRamRadio upgrading to 2.0.11. is too easy... get the changed files only and expand in a folder then find the 2.0.6_to_2.0.11 and expand it ... then copy the files that are there to the proper folders ,,, take the install and run it after you have over written the files provided in the 2.0.6_to_2.0.11

and I was hit hard by Pepotamo1985 till I made every thing reg. and the visual code is there in configuration to be checked.

I have written letter to Googal.ca informing of this man and his attempts to get better search results and ask to have the site he is advertising to be banned from Google.com

I phoned the owner of the server/isp and talked to his wife and she will inform the FBI because I run a site for young writers he is supplying porn to children.

Who knows what will come of this but I plan to have my writers 750 plus sent the local police a plethora of e-mail to pontificate on...

Good luck folks ...

The script is using spoofed IPs or passing through globally infected computers, making them impossible to ban because the IP is always changing ;)

I've been getting one post per day from Pepotamo1985 on my forum for the past several days too. I had one forum open to anonymous for people who are having trouble registering. Now, I've disallowed guest posting because of this spammer.

Anybody have any ideas on a permanent solution to disallow bot posts, but still allow legit anonymous users to post?

Visual code for guests

Would a visual code that need to be typed in for every guest post work against this guy.

OK, I created a quick little hack to try to stop bot anonymous postings. More info here.
