what is the policy on hard english parts which cant be changed easy

Post by carloclaessen » Thu Mar 17, 2016 10:46 pm

i am atm in a discussion on another board with someone about this, he is working on a mood extension now the moods can be entered sweet over an admin however the mood names are only in 1 language available then.

as far as i know is that a extension or mod previous was even rejected at the point if there was no language option to switch it in another language without loosing the english then as it is

so basic ly it is only english option, kinda like the smileys ( iwonder why that never changed ) even bbcode is multi language

As a thumb of rule an extension submitted to the CDB must be cross-languages (translatable)
and follow the Plural Rules Plural_Rules

About the smilies and bbcodes, care to expand?

if you have cross language site with more language installed also the helplines of the bbcodes are translated in the language you select

the smilies however are the only part i could discover which arent cross language if i hover them they allways say the same as is added in the admin

:D

is Very Happy in Dutch it also says Very Happy on the hover, this is asfar i could find out what isnt made with language variables else in dutch it would be Heel Blij

I am not aware of this problem with smilies about validation, never heard something about that.
I believe that's the way it is coded since ages, I could be wrong. I will do some investigation.

edit:
if you think those parts cannot be easily changed you can ask here posting your code, somebody will help you.

its not mine extension, we where just discussing about the fact that the way he has it now it is limited to just 1 language and thats how its added over admin, (kinda like smilies works in phpbb) in mine vision the mod will become way more attractive or powerfull if you make that part also cross language, also cause if you think about it most people who download it would like to see it in their native language, translation would still be needed, if you still need to translate it by either editing all moods added to the dbase manually or translating 1 language file, i think that translating 1 language file would be way more easier then editing one by one in admin, also people usual leave the english language still there.

at the end its probably the extension writer choice to make it so or not, at least if you ask me and i guess many more would love to see the language option cause people just like to see stuff in their own language
