Where is automatic update package archive

Post by dhargaalga » Fri Dec 30, 2016 4:28 pm

I want to update my version 3.1.9. I went to "Download" as directed from the Admin to go to "Check for updates". I can see "Automatic Update Package" (See attached) But this does not contain the update I require.

This is a better way to update:
  1. Backup all board files and the database.
  2. Download the full package.
  3. Unzip to your desktop and open the phpBB3 folder.
  4. Remove (delete) the config.php file, and the /images and /files folders from the package.
  5. Via FTP or SSH upload the remaining files and folders to the root of your board installation on the server overwriting the existing files.
  6. In your browser go to http://www.example.com/yourforum/instal ... update.php
  7. Let that run to completion.
  8. Via FTP or SSH delete the /install folder from the root of your board installation.
  9. Done.
You now have a new up to date board containing all your users and posts.

Only use a good FTP or SSH client, such as FileZilla, to transfer the files. (File transfer utilities provided in host control panels can cause problems.)

Please note: Any 3rd party style will also require updating, style and board versions must match.

I have uploaded the files with FileZila as explained. See attached screenshot of the client. How long does it take to take an effect. I visited my forum at http://spiritualityforimmortality.net/phpbb Nothing has changed. It still shows that my installation is out of date.

Still no difference.
Question: is this the "install" you wanted me to delete? See attached.
I had deleted the "install" file on the forum via the file manager!

No, the one in the phpBB3 folder, or in whatever folder your config.php file is in..

As shown in the quote, you told me to remove the config.php file along with other files. And I have removed them before uploading.

And therefore your previous config.php file will not have been overwritten and will still be present in the root folder of your installation.

I searched for config.php on my file manager on Cpanel and got many config.php I deleted the one marked on the attached.
Now, the website does not load. I got the following message: "The page isn’t redirecting properly

Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete.

This problem can sometimes be caused by disabling or refusing to accept cookies."

Why? Why did you delete your config.php?

the instructions said to delete the config.php file from the phpbb3 zip file that you downloaded from here, not the one already on the server.
the whole point of this is so you do not lose the one on the server.

I see that you have one on the server named config.php.2016-05-25.bak

rename that file to simply config.php

see what happens.

if your board does not come back then you will need to recreate a config.php file.

My board is back; but, the old one. What next?
Thanks Robert.

  1. Backup all board files and the database.
  2. Download the full package.
  3. Unzip to your desktop and open the phpBB3 folder.
  4. Remove (delete) the config.php file, and the /images and /files folders from the package.

  9. Done.

1. Have I interpreted the example you gave correctly as applied in my case?

No. It would be http://spiritualityforimmortality.net/phpbb/database_update.php

2. This is the only new item in the list I was given before that I followed. Since I have done the rest on your list, I want to just apply this step without downloading a new update package and going through the whole process again. Is that workable?

Yes
