Thank you, Christian
Although it's not reported, I now believe the development team actually dropped Internet Explorer 8.
How can I presume that? The new phpBB 3.2 introduces emojis, and these emojis use SVG instead of PNG: the vectorial format is supported by Internet Explorer since IE9 and there is no way to disable that feature via the ACP for the administrators or in the UCP at the user's side.
The proSilver style still renders quite well in IE8, though. But these flaws (incompatible emojis and core.js) suggest the current phpBB was not thoroughly tested from IE8 and that IE9 become the actual minimum.
Updating the "Styles Submission Policy
" would be appreciated
note: for the emojis, it would be simple to avoid the compatibility issues, by using the PNG alternatives. The server cdn.jsdelivr.net proposes PNG images in addition to SVG. Examples : http://cdn.jsdelivr.net/emojione/assets/png/1f44f.png
instead of http://cdn.jsdelivr.net/emojione/assets/svg/1f44f.svg
; or http://cdn.jsdelivr.net/emojione/assets/png/1f604.png
instead of http://cdn.jsdelivr.net/emojione/assets/svg/1f604.svg
