Remove search box

Post by Søren » Wed Feb 08, 2017 9:30 pm

Hi there, I found some old information, (2007), on how to remove the search box on the front page of Prosilver. I am just wondering if it is up to date and can still be used on 3.2.0 ? here is the link

no, the code is not the same and the instructions are not correct.

exactly what are you trying to do?

do you want to remove the search function from the board? if so, just turn it off in the admin panel.

if you want to move the search box, we can tell you how to do it.
etc.

we need more info about exactly what you want the final outcome to be, not how you think it should be done, but what the final outcome should be.

also, what style are you using? do you have any extensions installed etc.

OK thank you Lumpy, I want to remove the search box from the start side and only the start side for two reasons. One is because I don't think it looks nice graphically, (personal opinion) and secondly because I don't want none members being able to search from it.

So turning it off, (if I knew how, I will go back and have a look in the admin panel), would solve half of my problem but not the graphical part.

I hope this is a little clearer than my first post?

don't know what the start side means.

admin panel, bottom left, search settings, turn of search at the top of the page.

that will remove the search box from the header and anywhere else on the site. nobody will be able to search anywhere for anything.

In "Site Logo" extension by david63 you have got an "Remove search box" option.

There is a group permission setting for that. Look at ACP->USER AND GROUPS->Group permissions. Look up the Guest group, Advanced permissions, Misc tab, there is a Can search board setting. Set it to No or Never.

Of course there is nothing to prevent a guest to use Google "<search term> site:yourdomainname.com" and use Google's search results.

Thank you P_I ... guests were already set to 'all no' at the moment and that didn't get rid of the box! But thank you for the suggestion! Or maybe actually it did now that I think about it as I first saw it when I logged in as Admin. I will have to try it out. Thank you!
