3.2 BLOWS UP Forum after automatic update - ALL WHITE

Post by jpollar » Sun Feb 26, 2017 6:31 am

Just in case you're wondering guys...the automated update scripts...that shit doesn't work. Unless the desired result is to turn everything white. No alerts or anything went off saying...hey...this is screwed up...fix it to continue. Nope...all I have is a bunch of php errors that I can make no sense out of.

Code: Select all

Those errors all say 'no such file' suggesting something hasn't uploaded correctly.

Re-upload the vendor folder from a download of the full version of 3.2 and then open the board’s /cache folder on the server and delete everything except index.htm and .htaccess.

What RC version of 3.2.0 are you updating from? Or is this actually an UPGRADE from 3.1.x? If the latter, the Automatic update files are not the way to go. See this for how to update from 3.1.x - https://www.phpbb.com/support/docs/en/3 ... upgrade31/

Kinda too late Steve...I already f****d everything up using the automatic update. If it doesn't work, why provide it?

So it looks like the common file got screwed up with comments from the upgrade, so I removed those and got this crap now.

Call to a member function session_begin() on null Call to a member function session_begin() on null in /home1/k3w5u8y1/public_html/feldgrau.net/forum/index.php on line 31

I've been searching all over the place trying to figure out what the hell is wrong....no dice.

I already cleared out the cache folder...you'd think the gd installer would do that if it's required. I guess that's asking too much. Not that it works anyway.

I'm NEVER upgrading again. F that.

All of the files are there, so that makes no gd sense.

Please keep in mind that everybody here is just trying to help you, jpollar. Using swear words in every other sentence won't make this process go any faster, and is against our rules regarding offensive posting.

This is my normal vernacular. I'm not going to stop using copious amounts of profanity when I'm aggravated. My anger is directed at the process and software, not the people actually helping.

Thanks KevC. I will try that. Not sure that's going to fix the session issue...but you never know.

I turned on the error display. I'm still getting just this on every page.

Call to a member function session_begin() on null Call to a member function session_begin() on null in /home1/k3w5u8y1/public_html/feldgrau.net/forum/index.php on line 31

The auto-update script jacked up the css, header file, and common.php

The common.php is what caused the error.

Forum still looks like garbage, but at least i can see it.

You're probably looking at browser cached css. Do a hard refresh on your browser.

I did. Started another post just for that.

Ended up being cloudflare cache that was not showing my changes.

Racked my brain over that for several hours.

I've pretty much solved all my own problems.

I just post here to vent my anger and frustration.

The WSOD problem occurred because the automated update script left git merge comments in the common.php file. Not sure why the automated update script didn't point these things out. I would think that it would point that out as a major red flag as it causes a fatal error.
