Hello Christian,
you've got it! :)

For many years phpBB dev team don't want to have a public feature discussion. Things like the new phpBB ideas have been far far away. I've got statements from them like: Wie know which features phpBB core package needs. We don't need feedback from outside.

Now it it seems that time changed some things in a good way. But it's needed to publishing this new way to a maximum of phpBB using webmasters and phpBB MOD authors.

BTW: English is not my native language.

If you want to publicize it, why not put it in rotation with the "Scam warning", "Spam trouble?" and other "mini-ads"? Create a "Have an idea?" mini-ad that links to the phpBB Ideas area.

I'm not sure what you're saying. If you have some concrete suggestions, I would be happy to hear them.

Christian 2.0 wrote:My understanding of Martin's comments is, essentially, he believes the ideas system needs more exposure. 66 positive votes whilst a good thing, isn't even a fractional percentage of users that are involved with phpBB.

In order to properly move towards community-driven software, more people need to be taking part and that can't happen unless the ideas system is properly endorsed and marketed.

Endorsement: A publicly documented criteria of: When an idea becomes 'popular' , when it would be 'up for discussion' , and potentially guarantees that a certain feature would be implemented into the core once it reaches x% of approval with a minimum of x votes.

Marketing: 3 key locations. phpBB Homepage, phpBB forum index and phpBB ACP. Ideas system needs to be implemented in these areas to maximise exposure, encourage community ideas and increase the votes so that a proper consensus can be established. :)

I think it's a fantastic idea and it's now down to us to promote it and use it accordingly.

I also agree that it needs much more promotion than it's getting at the moment. I've always found it strange that there is basically no interaction with the end user via the ACP, why not have a module on the dashboard page that is taking a feed from the blog/announcements forum?

Ideally that entire landing page should be configurable with modules that can be displayed/hidden/moved (although we're getting into a total redesign of the ACP now..!). It's such a great place to give users important information in a tasteful way and is not utilised at all.

Maybe you should post that in the ideas center. ;)

Hello,
after several months the highest number of votes is 101 now. Sorry, but IMO phpBBs ideas is not a success story for phpBB.
I'm not wondering about it. Just one post. Not any kind of extra advertisement and support for it. For me it looks more like a alibi now.

Agreed, until you can promote it within the software itself like WordPress does on their admin dashboard it's always going to struggle. Law of diminishing returns, the percentage of phpBB users who visit this site compared to the overall usage base is small, then even fewer people bother with the ideas centre.

Browsing and voting for suggestions within the ACP of their own boards perhaps?

The phpBB Extensions team has actually been working hard on getting phpBB Ideas up and running again. For the transition to the latest phpBB version they had to rewrite large portions of it (see https://github.com/phpbb/phpbb-ideas).
While I can't say anything definitive about when it'll be available again, I can tell you that we're actively working on adding it back to this website. Especially since it allows even less experienced users to help with improving phpBB.
