There are various reasons that have been stated as to why some users are making this choice. As I stated before in this topic, I have 3 sites, 1 of which I am staying with 3.0 as I would have to rewrite most of the features that were custom-coded for that board. And no, I don't own a VCR. ;)

I still own a VHS video cassette recorder - why should I trash it (and all cassettes with content that isn't available in any other format) when it still works (verified 3 years ago)? In contrast to most software it is rock solid - do you have an idea on how much older the machines in power plants and planes around you are? Hint: think in decades.

I do! I have some old Disney VHS tapes. Actually, I inherited a Beta player a few years back.

Exactly!
The only VHS tapes I still have are the Disney tapes my mother still had from when I was a kid.

phpBBHacks.com, a resource for phpBB extensions and styles, is undergoing upgrades while we relocate to a different server. Please check back in a few weeks. We're hoping to fully relaunch in late December.

Thanks for all your support.

There was an unofficial support site, but that seems to be down too.

I'm happy with 3.2.X but there is still a wee bit of nostalgia for our beginnings as a mailing list. ;)

As the OP, all I have to say is that is has been an easy three-plus years as a refugee! Thirty-seven mods plus my three self-mods effecting 254 files that haven't given me a moment's trouble and I haven't been constantly chasing my tail with updates and upgrades. I even laughed when I looked at the ods file that lists each mod/file/line reference that I maintained; haven't opened that file since August '15! If the two small forums ever blow a tire, I will pull off the road, pull off the license plate, and just walk off.

If you're on a shared host expect that to happen within the next year or two as most responsible hosts will have retired PHP versions that support phpBB 3.0.

I am still running my main site on 3.0.x, but only because we are HEAVILY and CUSTOM modded.
Will take some $$$ to upgrade that stuff. But I will do that eventually. Maybe. Sometime.

Building on the phpBB2 Refugees idea, I went ahead and started phpBB3 Refugees. Obviously the site is unofficial and not affiliated with phpBB Limited in any way. It's also a work in progress, just wanted to get the forums up.

OMG, that is so great! Thank you, man. Thank you. :D :D
I will probably never upgrade to 3.1 or 3.2, I will go directly to 4.0.
I have "powered by phpBB.com" in my footer, so I should receive support. But no, they do not provide it.
