3.0.12 to 3.2

Post by edgar davids »

My forum needs upgrading to 3.2 (or lower) from 3.0.12 - I haven't done this for a few years - will it be a problem with a forum with quite a few MODS?

Hmm, just read this. :o

Most MODs for 3.0.x are incompatible with 3.2.x and their functionality will be removed in the update process.

For most of the MODS there are now extensions available.
Others things a standard in phpBB3

So if you say which mods you have, we can help you.

One thing to clarify, what's the highest version of phpBB I can go in the interim before it breaks all MODS?

You’ll have to stay in the phpBB 3.0 versions as phpBB 3.1 and 3.2 use extensions instead of MODs.

And bare in mind 3.1 is EOL at the end of December so the answer would be 3.2.1.

Upgrading is relatively easy if your database isn't too large (600 MB shouldn't cause any problems 3.0.12 > 3.2.1).
There is a caveat: all the mods will have to be removed completely (from the database) before attempting the upgrade. This implies removing all non default tables, all non default collumns and also all non default table entries (e.g. permissions not presenst in vanilla 3.0.12)

Best way to do this is to test the upgrade on a backup on localhost (or on a parallel site).
And just in case: take a backup before starting the definitive upgrade (do not challenge Murphy ;) )

use Imgur
Spelling is freeware, which means you can use it for free.
On the other hand, it is not open source, which means you cannot change it or publish it in a modified form.
