Crap.

Post by Furball Zen »

All i can say is, its late and i know i messed up. I went to update to the latest version and forgot to backup and overwrote using the wrong files (full install instead of update). Is there anyway to save the install without having a back up? Files are stored/served locally, not on a remote server.

Port 80 is for your server, port 3306 is for your db :)

the full package is what you are supposed to be using and not the autoupdate. that is only if you have been editing the core code for some reason.

anyway, if you don't have at least of backup of your config.php file then you can recreate it:
Knowledge Base - Rebuilding Your config.php File

once you have done that, you can update the database and you are done.
yourdomain.com/yourphpbb/install

then click on the update tab then click on update database then click on database only and submit.
wait,
done.
as usual, you have to delete the folder named install

You uploaded and overwrote existing files? This should not be a major issue except config.php.

Yea, i brain farted majorly obviously. I do have an other site with phbb3 installed so i can get most of the info from that config.php, my only issue is im not exactly sure of the table prefix and since im on IIS, i dont have phpmyadmin cause i cant find a good installer for it. I do have a small backup from when i first installed last July, but im not sure how to open it to view the files if its even possible, if so then i could get the table prefix from there, right?

The default prefix is phpbb_ , you would of had to change it to have something else.

You can open your .sql backup file in a text editor and get the prefix from that.

Ok, now that im passed the initial "&^*#*$^&_(*&(#)*&$#$" im getting this error:

Code: Select all

WRONG_INFO_FILE_FORMAT
[phpBB Debug] "include(../install/update/index.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory" in file E:\Sites\pcmodul.us\docs\forum\phpbb\install\module\obtain_data\task\obtain_update_files.php on line 77
[phpBB Debug] "include(): Failed opening '../install/update/index.php' for inclusion (include_path='.;C:\php\pear')" in file E:\Sites\pcmodul.us\docs\forum\phpbb\install\module\obtain_data\task\obtain_update_files.php
There is no install\module folder... and i cant get past the error, even after copying over new files.

that error may mean that you did not get all the files uploaded properly.
upload the folder named phpbb again. remember, there is a folder named phpbb ( exactly like that ) inside the main phpBB3 folder.

also, just stop and start over with the process of updating the databasre only.

No, because neither of those apply i think. I think it may be due to me adding another version of PHP top the machine last night based on the warning on the update page. It broke my other forum and i removed it and its back, so i think theres an errant piece of code referring to it still.

Question: if i do a fresh install, would i still be able to restore the db or no?
