The best thing would be to ask the author.

Please someone helps me to understand :(

Users notifications settings are in table user_notifications or user?

On user_notifications NOT all users have

notification.type.post notification.method.board
notification.type.post notification.method.email
notification.type.topic notification.method.board
notification.type.topic notification.method.email
notification.type.pm notification.method.board
notification.type.pm notification.method.email

anybody fixed this??
The admins are saying why would you force emails on users.....
so why is this forum forcing emails on users? Talking about phpbb.com I never signed up for receiving emails.....but I do

If I would not receive emails, I would never know if somebody replies to my post.....
this is so utterly retarded....I cant believe it they dont want to enable this by default....so the admin chooses how to set up its own forum....stupid

This is where you set your notification settings Edit notification options
Remove e-mail notify type. There should be one extension somewhere that would set default values,.. you may search for it, if needed.

that does not make any sense! Average user will never go into UCP, I never been there and I am the foru owner.....
Why is there a double face policy on this forum.....phpbb.com has email notification enabled by default to yes.....but we can not do that
so stupid and double-faced.....

this is pure insanity...every forum i know sends email to users when somebody send them pm or replies to their post......
it happens even on this FORUM right now.....I get emails....when somebody replies to my post.....but I never went to UCP to set that up

WHY DOUBLE STANDARDS....who decides that admins phpbb forums will not have this ability to set email notifications by default for all users???
WHY then I get emails from this FORUM?
Does anybody have a good explanation???

I am really ready to switch to another more user friendly solution......
in older version phpbb2 users got emails when somebody replied to their post.....but in version 3 somebody suddenly got this strange idea....lets stop sending users emails.....cause we dont want to spam them......BUT LETS SPAM THEM FROM THIS FORUM....
omg I am so pissed....

@garfy: Yes, as a board owner you can do exactly what you like but if you want things to work differently than core you have some options:
  • Request an extension (the subject of this topic)
  • Develop your own extension. (you *may* find you can get help with that)
  • Develop the code changes via the custom coding forum and community.
  • Request a change to the core via the tracker.
  • Post an idea
The fact that this extension request is four years old and no-one has taken up the challenge says to me there’s not much interest in it, if there are only a handful of users interested it’s hardly worth the effort. You can’t drag extension writers by the scruff of the neck kicking and screaming to this topic and tell them to do it.

Of course you do. That's what subscribing to a topic does. That's a default already if board-wide email is on.

You must have. I never get emails telling me I've got replies. I haven't subscribed to any forums except announcements where I do get emails. Look at the bottom of the forum. Does it say subscribe or unsubscribe?
