PhpBB SEO extensions

Post by kamaleon »

Hello,

Anyone using any of these phpBB SEO extensions?

1. https://tas2580.net/downloads/phpbb-seo-url/
2. https://github.com/phpbb-seo
3. https://www.inveostore.com/phpbb-seo-extension-40

I like the first one for its simplicity and it works very well although it is marked as abandoned here :(

viewtopic.php?f=501&t=2288486

And support is only in German as far as I know in here

https://www.phpbb.de/community/viewtopi ... 9&t=233380

I am just worried that it might not work with future phpBB releases.

What do you guys suggest although I know the admins in here don't like this topic.

Thanks

I always caution anyone about using any modifications/extension that cannot be backed out of easily and any SEO mod using URL rewriting falls into that category. These mods have come and gone going back to phpBB2, some compatible and some not. If you can't find something compatible you end up having to maintain it yourself or making extensive edits to existing mod.

Until there is native support with phpBB I wouldn't touch it with ten foot pole because there is no guarantee of backwards compatibility.

Thanks!

And you think one day there will be native support from phpBB?

Vanilla phpBB doesn’t need it.

I highly doubt they have any remaining phpBB code. 😉

Most of them should work for the most part going back to 3.0.0 or could be used as guide with some modifications. The biggest issue is knowing where everything is at you need modify and most of that code probably hasn't changed much if at all.
