Welcome PM on first login

Post by potku »

Title/Job Description:
Coder? :D

Target audience: (e.g. professionals, hobbyists, students)
New users of our board

Reward: (e. g. money, backlinks, fame)
Our board relies on ad income, but we will figure it out. :)

Deadline:
n/a

Preferred contact method: (e.g. PM, e-mail)
All

Link to the board:
https://potku.net/forum

Detailed description of the tasks:
We would like for our board to send a welcome PM to members who login for the first time. It is a nice way to welcome someone who is not familiar with how to use phpBB or doesn't know the other members well.

There was an EXT and a MOD before it for about a decade, but despite numerous requests, it has not been coded for 3.2. Hopefully this can change that.

Thanks in advance. :)

I started this job for a client some time ago but then it didn't make itself heard anymore, so the project remained floating in my ocean of codes.

Here's the topic: [3.2][DEV] The Receptionist
Planned there is a Bot of your choice and a lot of interesting stuffs more.

If you are interested in exhuming it we can talk about that. Just drop me a PM in case.

Prosk8er, thanks for the link. That's the one we had with 3.1. Although I know nothing about coding, people who do are saying installing that into a 3.2 board could bring with it some major problems. I just don't have the skills to take that chance. I am happy, though, that it is working for some people. :)

3Di, I thought you had abandoned that. I will send you a PM. :)

After a constructive discussion with the applicant, we have come to a consensus failure, so the position remains free unless he decides otherwise.

Thanks. :)

Okay, that's good to know. :)

I was reading about that before I started this topic. This part below behind the link got me a little nervous because I wouldn't be able to fix anything should something happen. But it's nice to hear you are using it without any problems. :)

I am using THIS FORK https://github.com/Leinad4Mind/apwa without problems.
My 2 cents: Whether an extension is in the CDB says nothing about its quality. It is more important to read the support topics for it. Better to avoid authors who do not answer support questions themselves, who do not update their stuff, and who do not fix bugs for years.

That's the one we installed a few days ago, and we had new members registering after that, but no new PM's are seen in the Admin Sent PM's or Outbox... :?

Has anyone encountered that with this EXT?
