Why must users of my bord refresh to see next topic?

Post by Svenne » Sat Mar 16, 2019 10:07 am

When users posts and send it - others must refresh to see the new topic.
OK - just put up the forum - but I can not find a way for other users to be "auto-updated" with the new topic.

Does it really work this way?

Yes. It's not Ajax'ed.

Is there a solution - "auto-refreshing" setting CRON or something on it?

Rev:
Sorry did not think - there must be something on the client side as well....

No problem, honest mistakes happen. :)
You can always edit your own posts if you have additional information to share, but don't like to bump the entire topic.

When people use a bulletin board like phpBB, they usually read a topic, perhaps reply, and then return to the forum containing that topic, or navigate to another forum. If they navigate by using the links, rather than the browser's back button, the forum page will automatically refresh if there is new content since that left the forum index, so if there have been new posts while they were reading the topic, they will be seen.

So, the necessary refreshing kind of occurs naturally.

Oh, it can be a useful function, eg. refreshing notifications for subscribed topics including the notification counter, so users will be informed even if they are not active pressing any button or link.

The OP could use this extension: https://github.com/GerB/livetopicupdate (the old version is in the CDB)
this extensions checks if there are new posts in a topic currently viewed by the user. If so, a bar indicating the new posts is placed below the latest post of the page. Clicking on the bar loads the new posts.
