No sure how you did it. Right now I tried to upload the file again using different browsers (Firefox, Chrome, Edge), and it fails.

I think he's pulling your leg, or implying "here is your alternative solution to editing core files", which is to link to the offsite content rather than uploading it. As he has done with [img]https://scooterclub.by/tmp/P90505-140230.jpg[/img] in the message where he said "I can."

i.e. Not an answer to the question you were asking about a better solution for fixing the ability to upload this image, rather than having to edit TypeJpeg.php in order to achieve it. I do not know the answer to that question either.

I don't try to locate for another solution, changes in the file that increasing size of analyzed exif are pretty enough. I just want to know when (or if) this change will be included into official release.

BTW, does anybody else able to attach the image into this forum? Really, I have no ideas how Mick did it.

If you would like your solution considered for addition to the phpBB core I suggest you post a phpBB Idea.

I meant not any file, but particular one which I referred before. Because the issue is not based on the file size, but on exif size.

For example, on my forum I'm able to upload 5 mb file, but failed to upload this one, which is 2 mb size only: https://scooterclub.by/tmp/P90505-140230.jpg

The image is not uploadable here nor in my test board.
Increasing the size in the file above mentioned does the trick instead.

Solutions are:

1 - file an issue at the tracker if not already exist and wait.
2 - modify such file.
3 - strip the exif metadata from that file (google helps) and upload it with no hassles.

All related issues seems to be fixed in previous releases:

https://tracker.phpbb.com/browse/PHPBB3-15103
https://tracker.phpbb.com/browse/PHPBB3-15133

I've provided a comment into one of them, now sure whether it is required to create new issue.

You should create a new ticket, as the old ones are marked as solved.

The software storing your upload must have modified the file, so whatever we download is not the original anymore. Put the original file into a ZIP and attach it here, or compare both files (your original and the downloaded upload) and you should notice differences.

EXIF is not the problem here.

No, stripping EXIF alone is no solution - the file may still have segments (XMP, IPTC, ICC...) which quickly outrun 124576 bytes and a SOF header with the dimensions still hasn't appeared. Also stripping softwares do not necessarily all produce the same output.

No, this issue was never fixed - the former ticket was for EXIF, the latter was for treating uploaded pictures in general - phpBB is still unable to treat (all) valid JPEG files accordingly.

I saved this one with right-mouse-button/download image as and it contains the metadata.

+1 The image provided by Kot Matroskin fails when I try to upload it as an attachment here on https://www.phpbb.com/community/, exactly as they have provided it. By "fails" I mean the upload status gets a "yellow triangle", and clicking on the yellow triangle shows an alert message of "ERROR: It was not possible to determine the dimensions of the image. Please verify that the URL you entered is correct."

So at least from here, whatever triggers that failure is already present in the image file provided & downloadable from the third-party host. As compared to downloading the one Mick successfully attached (the actual attachment; not the one using an [img] link) which has modified headers and content, whether that happened post-upload or pre-upload.
