just for grins. try filezilla. drag and drop all of the files/folders that you are transferring at once.

Its all looking very strange ???
Using FileZilla, every folder on my host has a big black question mark on it, and individual php files etc, are not showing at all.

I have not done anything yet, just left it all as it is.
I have never seen this before.

Well.
I have found my way around FileZilla enough to do the upload.

I had about ten notifications of duplicate files on the server which I took screenshots of. I also took screenshots of the upgrade stages.
These are shown below. There were also 2 duplicate notifications for the ACP, before I thought of taking screenshots.
FileZilla gave notification of one file that failed to upload.

<LocalFile>C:\Users\Z97-WS\Desktop\phpBB 3.2.7 Upgrade\phpBB3\vendor\zendframework\zend-stdlib\src\Hydrator\Strategy\Exception\InvalidArgumentException.php</LocalFile>

I was able to navigate to find it and upload it.

Here are the last 3 Screenshots

I am at a complete loss as to how there could be any duplicate files anywhere, as I deleted everything that needed to be deleted prior to uploading.
The date on the 'Old' files just add to the confusion.

personally I always have my ftp to overwrite without telling me so I don't know what those messages are about.

the last two images are perfectly normal. that is what they both should say and show that the database update was successful.

Well, its nice to know that some of it is OK.

But how can there be these files, when the folders were deleted prior to the fresh upload ?

I am still getting the 500 error message.

I have just had another look and there is a huge error file in the forum folder, much of it related to the vendor folder.
The vendor folder was completely deleted prior to the upload, and yet a lot of the screen shots I have given relate to overiding files in this non existant folder ?

What on earth is happening here ?

may be your upload has had some breaks of a second. Happens. Than the files exist - but are empty. Overwrite them.
Make sure your original uploads/downloads are binary (settings!), otherwise files are changed in an unexpected way.

Re-upload the Vendor directory. Contains a lot of files, may be you lose some during upload.

My 2 cents: Whether an extension is in the CDB says nothing about its quality. It is more important to read the support topics for it. Better to avoid authors who do not answer support questions themselves, who do not update their stuff, and who do not fix bugs for years.

I have alredy well and truely deleted the vendor folder and its contents along with numerous other folders as advised in prevous posts.
The reason that I provided the screenshots is to show that somehow, files that should not exist, and are certainly not visible in my web space, are still being over written.
I normally do have the FTP settings set to over write. It was to highlight the fact that supposedly deleted folders, were still being over written.

How is it possible to over write something that is not there ?

Like I say, I have deleted all of the files I was told to delete in previous posts in this topic, yet accorrding to my FTP client, they are still being over written ?

So, the bottom line seems to be that this latest version phpBB (3.2.7) has some serious shortcomings.

Do I really have to delete my board, and start all over again ?

Or do I look at premium paid for software ?

wrong conclusion. whatever the problem is , is not with phpbb since it works just fine for thousands and thousands of others.

so, we have to figure out what is going on with your situation.

one thought I had was maybe you are deleting the wrong set of files. do you have two sets of phpbb files on the server? could you be deleting from one set and uploading to a different area on the server?

or, it could be cache related. check on the hosting control panel, see if you have cloudfare or some other caching at the server level.

there has to be some explanation for why it continues to show the same error no matter what you do.

I am going to do a fresh install.

For the life of me I don't understand how I can get notifications that files are being overwriten, in an empty folder ?
Not just once, but a couple of times over.

This has become like something out of the X Files

Along the lines of what Scanialady was suggesting, it could be errors that are being encountered during the FTP transfer itself. e.g. Transfer of a file failed at some point where retrying seems appropriate, but during the retry it now encounters the previous attempt.

Maybe cut-n-paste the Filezilla log area and see if you can find previous attempts to transfer the file that happened before the attempt you had to confirm "overwrite" for, and some error that the previous attempt may have encountered.

In Filezilla settings, also try setting the transfer limit to just one. (Edit, Settings, Transfers, "Maximum simultaneous transfers: 1".) Just to make it a little bit easier on the FTP server, only tracking one outstanding operation from you at a time.
