Updated from 3.2.5 to 3.2.7 using the Updating 3.2.x procedure - no issues. Thanks.

Hello,

Which would be the best way to upgrade from 3.2.0 to 3.2.7?

Thanks

Well i've got this error while upgrading
You are running an unsupported PHP version. Please upgrade to PHP equal to or greater than 5.4.7 but less than 7.3-dev in order to install or update to phpBB 3.2
I'm on PHP Version 7.3.6 with phpbb version 3.2.5

and the best part of it is that my host only support php version 5.4, 5.5, 5.6, and 7.3. My host automatically upgraded my php version to the latest version so i'm stuck now.

So should i downgrade to 5.6 then update after update, then upgrade again to php 7.3? or just wait until the release of new version that can upgrade to php 7.3.6?

phpBB 3.2.x will not run on PHP 7.3 - you will either have to wait for phpBB 3.3 (unknown date at the moment) or downgrade your PHP version on your server.

My host allows me to pick and chose what PHP version to run via the htaccess. Is that not what your host has?

Most can select the PHP version from cPanel these days.

Here is the same but I can decide in which sub-domain to have a certain version of PHP apart from the main version, via htaccess in fact.
Example all my boards are on PHP 7.2.the_latest but the one dedicated to 3.1.x is on PHP 5.6.the_latest.

My board is currently at 3.2.2. The last time I updated it I seem to remember the general advice was to use a full install rather than the Automated Update option. Is that still the case or does the automated process work for 3.2.2 to 3.2.7?

Thanks

Better to use the full install version, "automatic update" is misleading. Should be used by experienced admins only for hard modded boards.
My 2 cents: Whether an extension is in the CDB says nothing about its quality. It is more important to read the support topics for it. Better to avoid authors who do not answer support questions themselves, who do not update their stuff, and who do not fix bugs for years.

3.2.4 to 3.2.7 using the Automatic Update package, no dice. Get an error 500 when browsing to install/app.php. The apache2 error log points to an issue with a missing class in the vendor directory:

[Mon Aug 05 13:12:09.831276 2019] [php7:error] [pid 2075] [client 73.149.55.243:53769] PHP Fatal error: Uncaught InvalidArgumentException: Class "phpbb\\install\\event\\kernel_exception_subscriber" used for service "kernel_exception_subscriber" cannot be found. in /var/www/html/vendor/symfony/event-dispatcher/DependencyInjection/RegisterListenersPass.php:91\nStack trace:\n#0 /var/www/html/vendor/symfony/dependency-injection/Compiler/Compiler.php(102): Symfony\\Component\\EventDispatcher\\DependencyInjection\\RegisterListenersPass->process(Object(Symfony\\Component\\DependencyInjection\\ContainerBuilder))\n#1 /var/www/html/vendor/symfony/dependency-injection/ContainerBuilder.php(587): Symfony\\Component\\DependencyInjection\\Compiler\\Compiler->compile(Object(Symfony\\Component\\DependencyInjection\\ContainerBuilder))\n#2 /var/www/html/phpbb/di/container_builder.php(198): Symfony\\Component\\DependencyInjection\\ContainerBuilder->compile()\n#3 /var/www/html/install/startup.php(143): phpbb\\di\\container_builder->get_container()\n#4 /var/www/html/install/app.php(30): require('/var/www/html/i...')\n#5 {main}\n thrown in /var/www/html/vendor/symfony/event-dispatcher/DependencyInjection/RegisterListenersPass.php on line 91

I tried moving vendor out of the way and unpacking the 3.2.4-to-3.2.7 again to get a clean vendor directory, same issue.

Edit: Tried this with the changed files method instead - same issue. I'm now "stuck" on 3.2.7 files with 3.2.4 DB
Edit2: After some more back and forth, resolved by "php bin/phpbbcli.php --safe-mode db:migrate". Good enough.

You should be posting in support, this topic is for release related discussion.

Knowledge Base - Updating 3.2.x is the recommended method for updating.
