Font Awesome 5 extension

i think it'd be cool if there were an extension that gave FA5 support in phpBB.

i'm not sure of the best and cleanest way to do it. the shims or their kits? idk.
but ideally, it would support the existing FA4 icon names and invocation styles while also providing v5 support.

I agree, why not upgrade phpbb next version to support newest version of fine awesome instead though?

I'm not 100% certain, but think I read on here a few months ago that Font Awesome was going to be scrapped from the styles in future.

First Font-awsome 5 is actually a downgrade of sort as they massively changed how it works and includes less actual icons than the version 4. They just include more variations of the icons they have which makes the number of icons seem higher. They also change how things are served and made it more complicated to use here self hosted versions of the icons through the need for javascript and other premium features.

Its this and the desire to provide more icon options and customization that we will not be upgrading to font-awesome 5. In fact we will be moving away from font-awesome being used they way it currently is in 3.2. This does not mean that you can not use font-awesome icons. We are just changing how we include it. Instead of including it directly, It will be something with far more customization allowing for far more icon options. You will be able to use pngs, svgs, or font based icons with the new system. Plus the svg/font icons can be served via iconify allowing for more icons from any free to use icon source to include font-awesome.

I used iconify in one html project that I had... and I gotta say .. it's perfect!
