Delete "Post reply" button

Post by KINGSLAYER »

Hey,

Anyone know where the "Post reply" button is located?

I'd like to remove it,

The reason is because I have a quick reply box and right underneath it, it says "Post reply" which obviously deletes your reply and takes you to another page..

I think this is going to confuse users and frustrate them when there reply is gone because they pressed the wrong button, because it stands out way more than the "Submit reply" button on the quick reply extension

Would appreciate any help,

Thanks.

The button you're asking about is in the viewtopic_body.html template of the style in use, in the places where you see L_BUTTON_POST_REPLY referenced.

That's an interesting thought I hadn't considered before.

Indeed "Post Reply" is going to cause loss of anything entered into the quick reply area. Indeed that could be non-intuitive for any users who "see" the "Post Reply" button and think that's the appropriate one, before they "see" the "Submit" button which is the actual appropriate one.

The thought that actually comes to mind, though: If quick reply is enabled, why not make the "Post Reply" action identical to the "Full Editor & Preview" button action?

Such that it's at least "impossible to lose data", regardless of which button you invoke. If someone accidentally hits "Post Reply" when they meant "Submit", they're still looking at their in-progress quick reply now in the full editor.

Unfortunately it's not "easy" to turn that existing "Post Reply" button into a "Full Editor & Preview" button, since the "Full Editor & Preview" button is actually part of a form field set defined in the quickreply_editor.html template. Maybe someone else knows off the top of their head, but I would need to think on that a bit to figure out what the smart solution might be.

open viewtopic_body.html in your text editor. save a copy of it on your computer.
find and remove, around lines 402:

Code: Select all

<!-- ELSE -->
				<span>{L_BUTTON_POST_REPLY}</span> <i class="icon fa-reply fa-fw" aria-hidden="true"></i>
save the file, upload back to the server, purge the cache from the admin panel and refresh your browser (crtl+f5)

test.

Can’t this be disabled with the permission system?

Another solution if you are concerned with 'duplicate buttons', disable the Quick reply functionality for either the forum or board wide using ACP settings.

If I am not mistaken using permissions to disable replying will also prevent Quick Reply from being available

Just tried testing this and even when setting the 'Can use topic/post icons' to No or Never, does't do anything.
Might be doing something wrong :roll:

So yea, forget about that.

You can just wrap the post reply button in a if statement <!-- IF not S_QUICK_REPLY -->post reply button code <!-- ENDIF -->

Why asking there when the reply button should be removed once the admin submit (clicking the "Submit and enable quick reply in all forums" button) the changes for the post settings in ACP. That's what phpBB 3.0 should have from the beginning IMO.

I took the liberty to post an idea about that here.

But in quick reply mode you don’t have the smilies and the bbcode features available..

As far as I am aware ABBC3 does not work with Quick Reply

HTML / forms / button

The discussion seems to ignore the use of a form, since the "QuickReply" (button) is created by

<input>
<submit>

and the text is loaded from the language file.
As far as I know, since phpBB-Olympus (version 3.0.6).
In this regard, the forms differ fundamentally and the operation should be self-explanatory. Especially since I see no disadvantage. On the contrary, a direct choice, like creating a quick reply and / or reply at the end of the topic page, also has advantages that I don't want to miss.
Which choice the user makes is up to him and a change to "Full Editor and a Preview" makes sense.

It may be helpful to include a standard note on using the "QuickReply" via FAQ ...! ?

Regards
