I get the impression you're not entirely seasoned with setting up a webserver on your PC (neither am I). Any particular reason you're not using an preconfigured package (e.g. Wampserver, XAMPP, Eaysphp (DevServer), or even USBWebserver (lightweight and installation is nothing more than unpacking the compressed file)?
Spelling is freeware, which means you can use it for free.
On the other hand, it is not open source, which means you cannot change it or publish it in a modified form.

The reason is because I don't know about that either. Could you link to what you are talking about?
Thanks

Each of those softwares has easily findable webpages and all have extensive information sections (except for the last one I mentioned as that's possibly the most basic and simple one).

Seeing "I don't know about that either", I recommend USBWebserver as that will get you started in 5 minutes.

I would try USBWebserver but it only last 14 days. What is an another easy web server that fits my criteria?

I am currently on the Fresh Installation of phpBB with XAMPP step from this link.

posting.php?mode=reply&f=64&t=2556331

In the xammpp folder, I click on the htdocs folder and I put the phpBB3 folder in the htdocs folder. Then I follow the instruction and type
http://localhost/install/. Then I get the error as seen in the link here. https://imgur.com/a/5Dy8SnU Any thoughts?

I think you went to the new page of the developer.
You need the old versions on https://usbwebserver.yura.mk.ua. No time limit.

if you put phpBB3 folder in htdocs you need to go to:

http://localhost/phpBB3/install/

You can copy all of the contents of phpBB3 to htdocs and then use http://localhost/install/

you went to the wrong page here: https://www.usbwebserver.net/
that is not for the webserver software at all.

here is the page for the webserver software: https://www.usbwebserver.net/webserver/
and if you need to get the different versions that have differet php versions then you go to the link
that warmweer posted above.

none of the versions have a 14 day or any other time limit.

luck,
robert

I am using USBWebserver

if I click http://localhost:8080/ the link doesn't work

My root directory looks like

The only way I can get the webserver to work with phpbb is by clicking open browser when start.

When http://localhost:8080/ opens I get the page below. Along with a lot of other information.
How do I get the forum working?

I get the image above.

My internet today kind of sucks I am using Wi-Fi from a phone to a pc. Could it have any effect?

I even tried http://localhost:8080/Desktop/phpBB/index.php because my file is located on the Desktop.

Any thoughts?

you have to type in the correct url :

http://localhost:8080/phpBB3/index.php

assuming that you have xampp installed correctly and have php and mysql services started, and that you copied the complete folder named phpBB3 into the root folder of xampp, it should show up for you to install.

it is not a "file" it is a folder and is should not be on your desktop at all.
when you download it from here, you will have a zip file.
you unzip that file and you will have a folder named phpBB3 ( exactly like that ).
that folder should be copied into the root folder of your xampp installation.

then you go into the phpmyadmin and create a new blank database and give it a name and create a username and password for it.
note that database name, username and password because you will need it for the install of phpBB.

You don't even need Wi-Fi as you're working on localhost.
USBWebserver has to be started so that localhost is defined and set up. Then In General, press localhost and localhost should come up, then add /phpBB and you should be in the board (that is once it's set up: and for that you need to have the install directory present and install it, or transfer another board and adapt the config.php).
Spelling is freeware, which means you can use it for free.
On the other hand, it is not open source, which means you cannot change it or publish it in a modified form.
