forum with password

Post by php_BB_Lover »

Hi,
if there is a forum [with password], and has full access/permissions to bots, and even its password be publicly shown.
is it possible even %1 for google or other search engines to index the forum's contents and topics?
thanks,

Bots will access the page requesting the password but not the forum.
If you want to prevent that, then use the permission system: Bots group, forum can see = NEVER, can read = NEVER (actually NO would be sufficient)
Spelling is freeware, which means you can use it for free.
On the other hand, it is not open source, which means you cannot change it or publish it in a modified form.

I say give the full permissions to bots. now can bots index the topics of a password protected forums or not!
Im not talking about to prevent the bots access to index the forums.

The answer lies into the question, what do you think about that... by logic?

Just thinking about my future projects!
pretend you create a forum with password protected. And give full access/permissions from that forum to bots. (Full user and forum permissions)
And put the forum's password publicly on the forum's description to visible to everyone.
And create couple topics with some posts.
Now question is: can google or other search engines read and index the topics and posts of that forum or not!

The answer was given already.

Bots will access the page requesting the password but not the forum.
BTW: there is a feature: [ Test out user’s permissions ]

If you don't don't trust that system or think bots can reason well enough to find and use the Password: use the permission system.
Oops, vague memories of having already mentioned that.
Spelling is freeware, which means you can use it for free.

Why password protect something that you want the bots to access?

Maybe not - but everything you keep asking about comes back to your lack of understanding of the phpBB password system.

i dont want bots to access. i wanna know if bots can access.

i said, nothing to do with "permission system" not "password system"
in fact, the base of my question is about "password system"

Sorry that was a typo - I meant to say "... your lack of understanding of the phpBB permission system."

All due respect, but the lack of understanding is completely on your side.
The answer was given, and extra (useful, if I may say so) information provided.
But your question amounted to: can bots index passworded forums?
So to summarise: NO

maybe yes, but as i explained above, pretend that bots have full permissions to that particular forum (this means that question is not about setting in "permission system" because bots already have all the full permissions).

i said you did not get.
i did not say you did not understand.
there is a big different between these two.
The answer was given, and extra (useful, if I may say so) information provided.
okay thank you for your reply.
but i'm waiting for other user's answers too!
But your question amounted to: can bots index passworded forums?
So to summarise: NO
that's why i say you did not get my question!
my question is not: can bots index passworded forums.
my question is: can bots index passworded forum's topics.
there is a big different between these two!
but anyway, thank you for replying!

You cannot have a password on a topic - therefore the two are the same

nope, not the same!
let me explain: when google_bot comes to a [forum with password] for example with id 20, it indexes that page [f=20].
but can not enter inside it to see its topics, because its password protected.
therefore, it indexes the forum. but can't index its topics!
i know until here.
my question is the technical part of this scenario.
