Spelling is freeware, which means you can use it for free.
On the other hand, it is not open source, which means you cannot change it or publish it in a modified form.

So so it's clear you can remove the logo, removal of the footer copyright notice is where you will lose support. Not sure how Xenforo handles this but as I recall all the forums I have used have their copyright in the footer as well.
There is a few extension to add your own logo/banner in the header like this one.

great, i will go with a paid solution like xenforo so i can have support & remove all the branding.
thanks!
Actually, I've just been informed that that clause has been removed.
Still, it probably won't have an influence on your decision.
You might want to check the rules on Xenforo or other paid software before you commit. Paid forumsoftware is usually stricter about what you can and cannot do regarding branding.

glad to hear that! in my experience paid software at least has the option for white/private label otherwise there is no need to pay them since there are so many great free options like phpbb. thank you for your help!
Incidentally, why do you want to remove the phpBB copyright? You get all the software, extensions, styles and support for free why would you not show phpBB a bit of appreciation?

hi mick,
i have clients that require white/private label solutions.
i hear ya regarding supporting phpbb & showing some appreciation.
however, this is a wordpress integration & they tend to have free versions of
everything like plugins & themes with limited functionality with the option
to pay for the full versions with all features which are also white/private label.
i'd gladly pay for that with phpbb if it were an option.
you can remove the copyright notices but what you can NOT do is add someone else's copyright to replace phpBB's.
if you leave the default copyright then you can add your client's copyright to the parts that belong to them etc.
you would be breaking all kinds of international copyright laws if you claim copyright to something that is not yours.
