pbpBB not Compatible with PHP 7.4

Post by Exclusive »

I got a notification to update my PHP version to the recommended version for my WordPress website on the same server with my phpBB board, after upgrading the PHP version to 7.4 it affected my board.

Board version: 3.2.2.
Database server: MySQL(i) 10.4.20-MariaDB-1:10.4.20+maria~buster-log

please what can I do now? Also, do I need to update MySQL version? if yes what is the recommended version too?

You had a similar problem over a year ago and we told you to upgrade to 3.3.x and you didn't want to.
Looks like that time has come.

Or you'll have to find a host that is happy to run an old out of date and unsupported version of php.

Smiles! this got me smiling like it makes me look stubborn tho.

My only problem with not updating my phpBB version is losing my styles and some customizations I have done.

Then I don't see the problem, looks like you only need to update your style manually to 3.3.8 ;) or you could recreate your style on prosilver 3.3.8 and Apply your changes again, which you will find if you use WinMerge to compare 3.2.2 prosilver with your style.

Do you know where to find the code changes?

Yes, I can try to find the codes. But also some extensions that I have installed may not be compatible with the latest phpBB version.

Rocket science provides 2 solutions:
a) install updated versions
b) disable incompatible extensions (do not delete data if you think an updated version will become available)
Spelling is freeware, which means you can use it for free.
On the other hand, it is not open source, which means you cannot change it or publish it in a modified form.

What are these non-compatible PHP 8.0 extensions?
