So, if I understand this correctly: you're going to fork phpBB for yourself
Correct. If there were something other than mod requests, and a dying extension site here, i would share my changes. But since I was first told "use a skeleton extension" and then someone else jumps in and says "a few simple changes will never be approved" what else do you want me to do?
You've been given advice, turned down money for dev's, anything but to hear people out. As someone else said, this is the last from me in this topic.
EDIT: Rephrased the word "thread" with "topic".

Strange reasoning you're using. Any changes you make or propose would have to be considered carefully (call it scrutinised): there's an "official" way to present your "changes" and you could even apply to become a developer for phpBB (IIRC the link has been given, if not ... there's Get Involved

Advice?? Let's stick to the wording "suggestions" or perhaps "proposals".
Also, your last word kind of suggests phpBB would be turned into a threaded discussion forum. >>> that's a -1 vote from me.
Spelling is freeware, which means you can use it for free.
On the other hand, it is not open source, which means you cannot change it or publish it in a modified form.

No, some inadvertently use the words thread and topic interchangeably. When anybody uses the term thread here, they actually mean topic most of the time.

That was a bit of sarcasm in my post

Just curious, will your fork be public? I find forks neat and I am interested on what changes you decide to make.

There wont be a fork per se, its a fork like you've seen mine already, howeve - I am almost done with a new feature now, that requires a specific sms-gateway to enforce players to verify their phone number in order to post (also require it from existing players), for fun I can post it in the public coding forum here, but that is not what i want at all, no on searches a public forum for a mod they didnt know they needed.
Its funny how phpBB wont reply as to their connections with newfold digitial/enducarance group or why they wont accept donations.
i am sry to say that but i am worry about future of phpbb.
developing of phpbb is very slow , specially 4.0.x
most of dev team members are inactive and we can see the phpbb in github with no new update or new feature or complete the old pr's

This topic about future of phpbb is starting to lose its purpose/point.
php 7.4 will be EOL very soon.. That is important & that is connected to the future of phpBB. Discussions about modifications shouldn't even be here.
How many people still even run php 7.4 now? I'm seeing servers running php 8 and 8.1, and ones that need to play catch up are running higher versions of php 7.
So yeah, I see no reason to continue supporting it. Those who have php 7.4 should avoid upgrading phpBB until they can get a php upgrade from their host, though for many, that would just be the click of a button.

It has a bigger impact.. Don't forget that 3.2 branch is still being supported.
My guess is that the release of phpBB 4 will be followed by the appearance of a phpBB 3.2.x Forums Archive
Added: [Dimetrodon] thinks likewise: what was that saying again?: something about great minds

Please stick to the topic title “What is the Future of phpBB?”. Thank you.

In short, everything revolves around money.
Maybe phpBB should do the same as WordPress:
wordpress.org
wordpress.com
They wont take money, ref my donation of 50k USD turned down. However, they will take Endurance Group's/Newfund Digital's money without explaining why and their connection.
