Spam email from 'guests' via Administrator

Post by weeksy59 »

I get a fair few emails

Hello Administrator,

The following is an e-mail sent to you through the administration contact
page on "revtothelimit".

The message was sent from a guest who specified the following contact
information:
Name: ginaud2

Because of how they're sent i can't really filter/block them as i kinda need users to be able to email the Admin. It's also used in the activation settings as that's set to "by user (email verification)

I was just wondering if there's something you guys do to negate this that's obvious and i'm missing from somewhere. I was kind of hoping there'd be a setting from blocking guests from emailing you, but i'm not seeing it...

Thought appreciated.

Hello all

I am also getting ton of spam from the forum email - via the forum form.

Board is here: www.cinematech.it/forum

Would the extension suggested work for my board, I am on 3.3.5 - the relevant page does not list 3.3.5 as compatible.

Thank you!

The description on that page says it's 3.3.x compatible.

If it doubt, set up a second installation in another folder with a new database and test it.

I don't know if I'm too late here to be of any help, but https://www.phpbb.com/customise/db/exte ... ptchaplus/ can help you filter that out by requiring guests and new users to pass a captcha. One of the things it helps protect is the contact admin feature.

I would use sortables to create a decent CAPTCHA as well: https://www.phpbb.com/customise/db/exte ... s_captcha/
