A well-presented roadmap would not only aid in receiving donations but also provide transparency and clarity on the specific plans and objectives that these contributions will be supporting. While we appreciate the support and volunteer work, IMO in-person meetings are not a priority at this time for this project.

I previously reached out regarding the potential in helping bringing back "Bertie" and the possibility of utilizing it as a means for collecting donations. Despite my efforts, I was completely ignored.

Thanks

I have no experience in this sort of thing but I would be willing to try and help some how.
The designer was a former team member. The company who made them isn't interested in making a run of fewer than 1000, unfortunately.

I sent a message to a couple companies last night to gauge if they'd be interested.

Here's the small prototype I had made years ago, in the hopes of another run.

I like those, they look nice. Particularly the middle one.

I've found a company that can do a minimum order of 500; Plushie. I've not idea how good they are, I have no affiliation to them but it's a start though. Does manufacture have to happen in the US? As isn't phpBB technically (or legally) a UK registered organisation? Does that make any difference at all?

Personally I think the design should be updated to 'modernise' it somehow. If this project comes to fruition it'd be nice to have a newer, modern version. I've always wanted a Bertie phpBB bear so I'm keen to be as invested in this as possible.

I'm just thinking. Is this project alive or is it dead?

Looking phpbb.com front page there is four years missing announcements.
16.9.2018 -> 28.11.2022
Also blog is dead as the latest post is from 16.9.2018.

Not much happening except maintenance releases of legacy forum software?

There is a topic here that discuss the future of phpBB. I once wrote phpBB does not have money or manpower to produce phpBB4.
It got deleted as off topic.

Shame you moderator for doing that as right now we have this thread right here begging for money. Just a few months after i posted phpBB does not have money...

What this project needs is a roadmap what is going to happen. Or is it just about maintaining a 3.3 branch?
There is no future right now.

phpBB certainly isn't begging for money here. The phpBB Collective is a move to a proper non-profit organization to handle the money that was already flowing into the project and being spent on the same things now listed here. Open Collective helps make it clear what exactly the financial situation of the project is. For those who have been asking, they can donate money now, but this is neither a request to do so, nor does the project need it to survive.
I appreciate gifts from my Amazon wishlist.

I thought the profit and non-profit was set up a long time ago. Thanks for clearing it.

I'd still want a bertie and reusable coffee mugs. I go through few mugs a year at work.

That will be good, but its to late..., forums are more or less dead, all the ppl moved to facebook, youtube, etc and they will not return to forums soon...
One of the biggest mistakes of you guys was to abandon the subsilver2 based interface, it was the reason why phpbb was legendary, you wanted to improve and u killed the project, this is hapening with the games, first are epic and 2nd are failed....

It is a sad debate to oppose social networks to phpBB forums, one and the other do not affect the same audience, one is very active and the other a little less. One is of poor quality when it is enough to find reliable information while the other, for example this forum, will be good useful advice in the search for information.
Social networks will wear out faster than phpBB forums, one is four years younger than the other but is running out of steam faster..
Sorry for my English ... I do my best!

What do you get when you "create a page" in some social media platform?

- Unlimited storage for images.
- Unlimited storage for posts.
- no monthly fees.
- Search feature sucks.
And you are not in control of your page.

With phpBB what you get?

A discussion forum software, which needs
-- Pay storage fees for images.
-- Pay storage fees for posts.
-- Have monthly hosting bills for website.
-- Search feature works.
And you are in control of your website. (everything)

This is where phpBB fails, except search and you in control.
It is expensive albeit "free"

I'm sure a nub like you, that joined 2013 is too young to see what is happening.
We used to call your kind "a fanboy" that fights the fights that team members should comment.

All love to Yuriy and Nils, just talking shit here like i used to. <3

You basically told me you have more experience & history here yet you don’t know how a site is running after so many years.
All i want is to know what your comment has to do with the subject.

Your contribution is a spoon in the ocean I don’t know why you are so frustrated. If you don’t want to contribute just leave. We’re totally fine without your presence.

Now don’t get me wrong I didn’t contribute too much either but i am not being disrespectful towards anyone involved in the project.
