But it's 100% relevant to the question posed in the topic title.
There are few reasons.darakhshan wrote: ↑Sun Mar 19, 2023 8:30 pm As a newcomer to phpBB3, I have found that I used phpBB2 a long time ago. I have noticed that some phpBB extensions do not get updated frequently and that the authors of these mods have the latest versions on their own websites. I am curious as to why this is the case, and whether it is safe to download these extensions from external sources outside of the phpBB extension database.

ermm? wouldn't that AI need a form of validation/accreditation before the output can be considered up to phpBB-standards?darakhshan wrote: ↑Thu Mar 23, 2023 3:45 am It won't take long. You can give your code to AI, and it will validate it for you and flag any security issues. In a year or two you'll witness a revolution that's already underway.
You are right . Like any other software, AI-based code validation tools need to go through a validation process to ensure their accuracy and reliability before they can be used for critical tasks.warmweer wrote: ↑Thu Mar 23, 2023 8:20 amermm? wouldn't that AI need a form of validation/accreditation before the output can be considered up to phpBB-standards?darakhshan wrote: ↑Thu Mar 23, 2023 3:45 am It won't take long. And its unlikely that there is enough coder manpower to check external validation processes just like the difficulties in processing extensions in the queue here in a reasonable time frame.
It's only valuable if you don't want to maintain a distribution channel for your extensions and/or want it to be part of the official phpBB CDB. In phpBB 4 there will be a customisations installer that will be part of the core which will, by default, use our site as the source of those customisations. Of course the admin can change the source, but the source site has to deal with maintaining their own CDB.[Dimetrodon] wrote: ↑Thu Mar 23, 2023 12:50 pm But again, the phpBB stamp of approval doesn't strike me as that valuable.
